Why We Have Confidence That Jesus is the Son of God | Jonathan Evans

Jesus is the mediator between God and man he's the second member um of the Trinity um Jesus uh even Philip Philip asked a question in um in John 14 um he asked the question he said Jesus when are you going to show us the father this is very poignant uh Jesus said Philip have you not been with me long enough now when you have seen me you have seen the father ooh what's up YouTube family it's Jonathan Evans okay listen let me go ahead and jump in because there's something we got to get right we got to get it right and you know we got to get right a very important question that was a asked in Matthew 16:13 Matthew 16:13 Jesus looked at his disciples and said who do people say that I am that's the question that's the question that's asked what is the word around town about me this is something that we got to get right because if you haven't noticed it or not even though over 2,000 years has passed since Jesus died and Rose um he's still the topic of the town if you haven't noticed it or not like people get angry when they hear his name people rejoice when they hear his name people praise when they hear his name people walk away when they hear his name like if you say God in general we're good but when you talk about Jesus Oh that that's a sticking point because the question is who is Jesus and Jesus asked that question and if we don't get this right everything else falls apart like if you don't get this right um you're playing football without a ball like if you don't if you don't get this right everything else shuts down I mean if you have a billion dollar industry like the NFL with 100,000 fans coming to uh you know 16 different stadiums around the league to watch two teams play um you got all of this merchandise sales you got all of these different things happening all of those things but you take the football out it all collapses if we don't get this right when it comes to Jesus Christ and and who he is everything else collapses everything else falls apart everything else kind of doesn't matter especially as it relates to the Christian faith but a lot of faiths um talk about Jesus talk about Jesus different ways and Jesus asked this question how do they talk about me like what is the word around town about me when it comes uh to Jesus Christ but let me just say something the fact that Jesus is still the headliner like I know famous people who died like two years ago that nobody talks about I mean you know people die and people move on quick I mean even if they had Fame and Fortune and all of those different things like we give them a moment of Silent silence and then no disrespect we're just on with our lives um it's been over 2,000 years since Jesus passed away and rose from the dead and my uh opinion and my belief um rose from the dead and that happened and that was over 2,000 years ago and he's still the headliner so all I'm saying is there must be something about the name Jesus like there like no matter what you believe about Jesus there's something special about him like there's something about there must be something about the name Jesus uh to just transcend time like that to go from one generation to the Next Generation to the Next Generation and he still be the topic of conversation and today um the question is still the same question the question is still the same question the question is who is Jesus like when he asked his disciples what is the word around town about me um you can attest to the fact that that is that is the question of the day and so we want to make sure that we answer this in our conversation um you may have seen it in a sermon on YouTube but I want to have this conversation with you because um the Bible is to be paid attention to like whether you believe it or not the Bible is to be P paid attention to like it's a book that you want to read it's a book that you want to look at it's a book in my opinion that you want to believe and there are several reasons it's the most unique book in the history of all mankind um it was written by 40 different authors over a span of 1500 years from three different continents and somehow they all agree um that is most books are authored by one person and you have to take their word for it this one is authored by 40 people um who lived in three different continents over a span of 1500 years and all the writings all the pro prophecies from 500 years before his birth and 700 years before his birth tell about his coming even tell about John the Baptist that would come to make the way of the one who's coming like it's so detailed and so specific and how does that happen with 40 different people writing it how does it happen with um um you know 1500 years span between it like how does it happen over three different continents and prophetically say what's going to come and then it comes and then all of these different things but not only that the people who saw Jesus died horrible deaths by not being willing to back up from what they saw like the disciples uh Paul um uh Peter I mean the the the horrific deaths that they decided um that was worth dying for the life that they live with Jesus and what they saw and seeing him 500 people after his resurrection seeing him alive like and all of these people bearing witness and giving testimony about who he is and then then even the disciples making fun of themselves like they're they're writing about themselves and how you know they uh didn't believe and you know they had doubts and um you know Peter I mean I denied him three times and I mean they embarrassed themselves like normally people play themselves up or they'll embarrass somebody else like they'll write a tell all book and they'll embarrass somebody else but for them to believe so much to die these deaths for them to believe so much to to not to just humble themselves and say I was terrible didn't recognize it didn't totally understand it but this is really what it is uh for the book to be so prophetic and to be written the way that it is you should pay attention to it um it's the best seller of all time all the time uh Jesus never went more than uh you know 100 miles uh from the place of his birth by foot um but there's no place on the planet where people don't talk about him or recognize his name uh he never wrote a song about himself but there's more songs written about him than any other person who has ever lived um he's never written a book about himself but the book written about him all I'm saying is there's something about the name Jesus uh that needs to be paid attention to um and when they ask when Jesus asks his disciples the question um who do people say that I am I mean they told them and they told them what people will tell you you need to know I mean they told him well some say you're John the Baptist well that's nice some say you're Elijah some say you're Jeremiah or one of the prophets though okay that's cool like that's those are some great dudes um Elijah Jeremiah you know um John the Baptist there's prophecies about him you know and um and so that's that's great but you know how people can be nice and simultaneously offensive like you know how people can say something nice to you but it's wrong so um it's offensive uh not because they didn't come to you uh one of the things I said in a sermon um is that you know there was a a friend of mine who came to a new couple who just had a baby and they were like that that's a sweet little girl and they looked at each other like uh it's a boy you know what I mean like you should have been paying attention to the fact that he has blue on you know so people the the idea was it was nice ni what you said but it was wrong so it's kind of like H or the worst one here's the worst one um had someone come up to a young lady and say you look so cute pregnant and then she looked at him like this and I said like I had to walk away cuz that was embarrassing she was like I'm not pregnant like I knew you were trying to be nice but it's real offensive because you're wrong um so I can imagine Jesus who um is the Son of God simultaneously God himself if you understand that um those are some other videos um standing there John the Baptist like he he came to make the way for me Elijah um Jeremiah it's nice but it's wrong um John the Baptist knew who he was John the Baptist and you know said Behold the Lamb of God who comes to take away the sins of the world right uh John the Baptist um was aware that man this this dude man I can't even tie his sandals like I I man he surpasses me and ex existed before me like John the Baptist knew who he was um but people today are confused the same way about Jesus as they were back then like it's not different just because time has passed it's not different people still haven't gotten it right they still don't um understand what the Bible says or choose to reject what the Bible says about who Jesus is and so I think that's important because that's the football like there is no Stadium there is no fans there is no merchandise there like the whole industry collapses if you don't have the ball okay and so Jesus um we we have that today uh we have that misunderstanding you know different people believe different things obviously you know some believe he's a good Prophet okay that's what they said he's Elijah or one of the prophets um some believe um you know he's a wise teacher well the Pharisees called him you know a teacher all the time people who just kind of like wanted to dumb him down from being Lord they called him teacher all the time you know some believe you know in Scientology he's just a great historical figure you know it's okay great he's a great historical figure we recognize you know that he lived we recognize that you know he's still a big deal people still talk about him he's a great historical figure all of those different things um and so there are people with varying beliefs on who Jesus is so that's still the question that's still uh the question of the day but then he asked another question and I think he it was a setup like the first question was a set up for the second question and so he asked another question and the next question was but who do you say that I am in other words I I heard what the word is around town but for the people who are watching this uh video right now what do you say I I know you can tell me what other people say I know all of those different things and now he's talking to his disciples so now he's talking to people who are in relationship with him uh verse 15 and 16 Matthew 16 he's talking to people who have a tighter relationship than those around town and so the first question is a setup for the second um you know it's kind of like I'm going to ask you what they say but really I'm trying to get to what you say because I'm talking to you so the question is what do you say about Jesus I mean like leave it in the comments you know before we go any further I want you to leave in the comments like who is Jesus who is who is Jesus to you like what what what do you what do you believe about him like this this is pivotal um to all of life okay so you can't be a disciple and have the wrong belief about Jesus like he's like if you're going to follow me you don't need to be thinking about me who I am you don't need to still be conjecturing still pontificating like you don't still need to be intellectualizing like we need to we need to land the plane basically is Jesus saying and so he looks at the disciples and he says who do you say that I am the you there is plural so he's saying who do y'all say that I am so in the comments what is it um is he savior is he Lord is he the Son of God is he god um is is he the son of man is he the son of David is he a good Prophet only is he a wise teacher historical figure I mean what's your belief um about Jesus so you can type that in the comments type that in the comments type that in the comments because this is going to be one of the most important um decisions you make in your life as on who he is okay and so a lot of people call themselves Christians if I can speak to Christians for a second because I'm a Christian uh but they're not able to really articulate and understand um who Jesus is and if if you don't understand who he is then how do you participate in the future paradise and his current program you know like if you if you don't know who the coach is then how do you know I mean that kind of breaks everything down like if you don't know who he is then the then the future that he has promised which he calls eternal life in the Bible and the current program um that he has for disciples know follow me um I mean I don't understand what what we do with that so it's important to know who he is so y'all are leaving that stuff in the comments y'all are going to do this after this video sure yall going to be in there talking and that's great but Peter answers the question so Peter steps forth and says in verse 16 Matthew 16 you are the Christ the son of the Living God next verse Jesus says blessed are you you know what it means you know what that means that means Jesus says ding ding ding correct so Jesus himself is saying hey Peter you're correct okay so before I get to what Peter said um let me just take a second just in case you're confused on what I think about Jesus um I'm going to give you some things just off the top of my head about Jesus based on God's word Jesus is the way the truth and the life no one gets to the father except through him he said it himself Jesus is the first and the last uh Jesus is the creator of all things Colossians 1 Jesus is full deity in bodily form Colossians 2 Jesus says God emptying himself taking the form of a bonder servant Philippians 2 um Jesus is at the beginning from the beginning before the beginning um Jesus is the mediator between God and man he's the second member um of the Trinity um Jesus uh even Philip Philip asked the question in um in John 14 um he asked the question he said Jesus when are you going to show us the father this is very poignant uh Jesus said Philip have you not been with me long enough now when you have seen me you have seen the father o I mean he was talking to the uh Pharisees in John 8 um and those religious leaders and and at the end of John 8 look at 58 57 56 kind of around in there um you know they were you know he said Abraham was glad to see my day and they were like bro you're you're you're not even 50 years old you're talking about Abraham they didn't say bro but you know what I mean um and Jesus said well before Abraham I am o um they picked up stones to Stone him well why did they try to kill him well he was plainly saying I'm God who's plainly saying making a Blasphemous statement in their view so they picked up stones to kill him because he said before Abraham I am that means two things number one he pre-existed Abraham uh and number two he used the word I am am the name I am which is the which is the name God used for himself in Exodus 3 when he was talking to Moses when he said to Moses just tell them I am that I am sent you o you know what I mean so um when the paralytic when he healed the paralytic and he said your sins have been forgiven and they were like who can forgive sins but God Alone gotcha so um Jesus has said those things about himself and then Peter makes it plain and he just says you are the Christ the son of the Living God and then Jesus says ding ding ding correct so all throughout the Bible Jesus is you know the gospels he's saying who he is okay and that's being cooperated uh with scripture and so now you have to decide whether you believe it or not now you have to decide whether you're with Peter or you're with the crowd um Peter said you are the Christ the word I like the Christ because it's like the Ohio State like there's not another one you know what I mean so it's it's the one there there's only one it's the Christ Christ means savior deliverer um Redeemer um anointed one is really the the solid term for Christ is the anointed one takes you back to Psalms 2 when uh the anointed one um is mentioned first mentioned in scripture Psalms 2 um he is my son who I have begotten and um you know his the whole earth will be um his inheritance and he will shatter them like Earth and wear and break them with a rod of iron so Jesus Christ was mentioned in Psalm Psalm 2 and what he would do and but blessed are all those who take refuge in him right so um um so Peter is going back to you are that one you you are the Christ you're the one you're you're not a prophet uh only you are a prophet speaking on behalf of God I mean he's doing that but you are the prophecies from the prophets like you're Prophet priest and King like you're you're all of the above so when he says you're the Christ he says I find my salvation in you I find my redemption in you and Jesus says I am the way remember the the way the truth the life like there's no other way other than me and Peter says you're that savior you're that Redeemer like you're that guy okay so the question here is do you believe in in in Peter's you know proclam Proclamation like he proclaimed it he's the Christ then he says he's the son of the Living God oh well now he goes to his deity he say you're not just the one who saved me but you're you're you're you're the deity the deity you you are the one who owns me like you're you're God he's he's he's the son of God and God the son right um so we got to understand this I mean how can Jesus be called the creator of all things in Colossians 1 I thought God created the heavens and the Earth uhoh and why did um why does it say in Genesis 1:26 let us make man in our image like who's us an our why does Matthew 28 say baptize them in the name singular of the plural Father Son and the Holy Spirit like there it is right there the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit that's the Trinity we're talking about Jesus is the second member of the Trinity Father Son and the Holy Spirit you are the Christ the son of the Living God um but let us make man in our image Colossians 1 I created all things wait a minute what before Abraham I am I hope you're not getting confused and I'm able to connect uh some biblical dots for you so that you know that Peter's Proclamation is the correct Proclamation and in Peter's short phrase there's a whole lot in there you are the Christ my savior My Redeemer the anointed one the one that has come that was to come you are the Son of God God the Father God the son God the Holy Spirit also God's son Mary who you know God who didn't have a father cuz he was impr Mary was impregnated by the spirit of god um there that means there's no sin in him pass by through the seed of man no man involved um and uh born of a virgin Isaiah talks about that 700 years before so basically Jesus is that dude basically what I'm telling you is he is he is that dude I'm adding some things here there's a sermon here on my YouTube channel where I talked about this to the church but I'm adding some things uh just to Muse with you about who he is and so that you can watch this this video rewatch this video and articulate oh this is what I believe like I believe Jesus Is My Savior he's the anointed one he's the prophecies from the prophets he's the Fulfillment of scripture like he's where I find my salvation but he's also the god that owns me created me like he was born of a woman and then create he was also the creator of his mother okay um and so Peter got it right and then Jesus said blessed are you Flesh and Blood did not reveal this to you my father who is in heaven like this is such a big deal it wasn't like your flesh that revealed this to you but it was a it was like a a a spiritual God Revelation um that was given to you and and this is what I'm going to build on like I'm going to build on the formation of believers who believe this about me on this rock I will build my church The Gates of Hell uh will not Prevail against it like this this correct understanding of me okay I'm the Chief Cornerstone there is no Foundation that can be laid other than the foundation of Jesus Christ so it's me but but on this rock on this understanding of me the collective Believers like the body of Christ the the the formation of stones that are coming together to believe this truth I will build my church gates of hell when I Prevail against it so if the gates of hell are prevailing it's not because um something Jesus said isn't true it's because we're not building what he's building we're building like we're playing the game without the ball like we don't have a proper understanding as the Believers of Jesus Christ we're a little bit too much like the crowd like we're saying he's a good Prophet or he's cool or I live my life like he just you know says a few word here or there that I can trust them I can't and so the gates of hell are prevailing so we're not building his church we're just building our church while using his name it's one of my dad's favorite statements that I've heard him say since I was 10 and now I get it but even your life like if your life is not the the Christ is not the Bedrock of your life then hell will be winning and how do you know that if Christ is the Bedrock of your life or not well hell's winning that's that's tell you know your life is a mess and it's not because it's not because life is hard in this world you will face trouble no it's because we live maybe only as if he's our savior but not the God who owns us so we kind of we're saved but kind of aloof and then hell is like up Open Door boom I can get them easy they have a cultural mindset like they kind of have Christ they're kind of wavering they're not like he's the Christ the son of the Living God period so then hell's like Open Door Blitz tackle sack got them um but he says Upon This Rock I build my church in the Gates of Hell cannot Prevail against it okay so right cannot so I want us to have this understanding I want us to know play with the ball um I don't want everything to collapse from future future Paradise to current program that you can't really take part in because you haven't got the right understanding and and you haven't gotten it right this is who he is and when you when you get that understanding you're solidified in that then he just gives you the keys to the kingdom that's that's access to a lot of power short and plane okay I want you to have that access I want you to uh all of us to experience those keys to those kingdoms to that Kingdom um and I want us to be able to articulate it and get it right because there's a lot of people who are still saying a good Prophet he's John the Baptist he's just another and he's not he's the Christ the son of the Living God um so let's get it right it's a benefit for our life is the
