Promise of Abundance

Transcript

We live in a world where most of the time we're skeptical of what people say. When they make a promise, we don't believe that they're going to keep the promise. As a matter of fact, we're actually surprised when they do. When somebody says something and then they actually do it, we go, "Wow, they did what they said."

However, when you get something from God and God says it, God not only keeps his promise, but he exceeds the performance that he based in the promise. He goes beyond what he's ex what he said he would do. This is why we read in the Bible Ephesians 3:20.

Now to him who is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all that we could ask, think or imagine. Our God doesn't just do what he says. He exceeds what he says. For example, he said he would pardon from sin. But when you read Isaiah 55 and 7, it doesn't just say he'll pardon.

It says he will abundantly pardon. We read in the Bible, he'll provide. And when you read Luke 6:38, it doesn't just say he provides. It says he provides pressed down, shaken together, running over with good measure to the point you can't contain it. He abundantly provides. He doesn't just promise to save.

It says that he'll save to the uttermost. Meaning that it doesn't MATTER HOW FAR YOU'VE GONE, his grace is sufficient to reach you where you are and redeem you. He doesn't just promise to heal. The Bible says that he heals all of our diseases. So today we not only have a God who keeps his promise but we have a God who exceeds the promises he keeps. >> John chapter 10 Jesus made it very clear in verse 9.

I am the door. Say that with me. I am the door. He's saying so clearly that he is the only channel by which you can receive promises from God. Second Peter agrees with what Jesus said when it said, "Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God through Jesus our Lord."

It all comes through Jesus. God's abundant provision is found in his promise. His promise is his word. His word is Jesus. John chapter 1 it says in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God and nothing was made that was made without the word.

Go all the way to verse 14 and it says and the word was made flesh which was Jesus and it dwelt among us. So when it comes to finding out what you have in form of promises and how you can receive those promises. One the promises are guaranteed.

Two the promises are in the word. And three, the promises come from Jesus who is the word. >> So how does this work in your life? Very simple. The more you get into the word, the more the living promises get into you. The more the living promises get into you, the more the abundance of God starts to come into your life.

As a matter of fact, second Peter says that these promises are exceedingly great and precious promises. Exceedingly great and precious promises. In verse three, it says, "His divine power has given to us." Say that with me. Given to us. It doesn't say it's going to give it. It says he has what? >> Given it.

It's already yours. >> GIVEN TO US ALL THINGS. >> God's already given it. So why don't you have it? There's two reasons. One, people don't rejoice in what they don't know about. Amen. >> You can't celebrate a promise that you have no knowledge of. >> One of the reasons that people aren't more excited about their salvation is they don't know what they got when they got saved. >> Hosea 4 and verse 6 says, "My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge."

When you realize what Jesus did for you with salvation, you don't lack anything except for the knowledge of what he did for you, which means that the only way you can understand those promises is that you read them. They're all here, thousands of them, and they're guaranteed. 2 Corinthians 1:20 says, "All the promises of God," say that with me, "All the promises of God in him," that's Jesus, "Are yes and in him, amen, to the glory of God through us." >> What does that mean?

That means that the more of those promises you live in, the more God gets glory. So, it's your opportunity and responsibility to know what those promises are. But if you don't know them, you can't benefit from them. And if you can't benefit from them, you can't act upon them.

The second reason that people don't rejoice in the promises is because they don't act upon them. James 2:20 says, "Faith without works is what?" Dead. So when you discover a promise, you have to take action upon the promise because your action is what qualifies you for abundance. Obedience brings abundance.

When you act upon the promise, you activate that promise in your life. Look at any promise that God makes you. James chapter 5, it says that the prayer of faith will save the sick. That's verse 15. But verse 14 tells you that before you can have the prayer of faith to save the sick, you have to act upon it.

It says, "Is there any sick among you? Let them call for the elders of the church." That's action. and the prayer of faith will save the sick and the Lord will raise him up. It's not difficult for God to heal the sickness. But you have to act upon his promise before he can do the work.

Luke chapter 6, we mentioned it earlier, verse 38, it says, "When God gives, he gives exceedingly and pressed down, shaken together, running over, will he pour into your bosom good measure that you cannot contain it." Now that's the promise. But the first word that you read in the verse is the activating word which says give and it shall be given to you.

You can't receive pressed down, shaken together and running over until you activate it by giving. God's promises are in his word. God's promises come through Jesus Christ. God's promises are guaranteed by the lamb. And God's promises are not circumstantial. They're conditional. I want to say that again because many people believe opposite.

God does not bless you with his promises based on your circumstance. He blesses you with his promise when you meet the condition to have the promise met. >> We think that when we get in a circumstance, we can go get a promise that solves the circumstance. That's not how God works.

God doesn't bless you based on what you're going through. He blesses you based on the fact that you meet the conditions for the blessing. Oh, I'm going through a time of need. I'm believing for a provision. God's a provider all the time. Oh, I'm in sickness. I'm believing for a healer.

God's a healer all the time. Oh, I'm facing a trial. I'm believing for a deliverer. God's a deliverer all the time. His promises are not circumstantial. They're conditional. And you have to meet the conditions for the promise. Let's look at this application in the life of Elijah. Elijah is a prophet.

Israel is going through a drought. They're starving in a famine. And God is feeding Elijah when the ravens are bringing him Door Dash every day. You think they came up with that through an app? God had birds doing it for his prophet long ago. Tell me the Bible ain't cool.

But then one day the birds quit coming and the brook dries up and Elijah says, "Hey, what's for breakfast?" And God tells him in verse 9, he says, "Arise and go to Zerapath and dwell there because I've commanded a widow there to provide for you." Now, the Bible tells us in Romans 10:17, faith comes by hearing and hearing by what?

The word of God. If you're going to activate the promise, you have to act in faith. Elijah gets a word. It says, "Go to Zerapath." And in faith, he begins to act upon it and he goes. If he goes anywhere else, he starves to death. But because he went where God sent him, he qualifies for the blessing.

So Elijah goes exactly where God sends him. And when he gets there, he sees a widow who is gathering sticks so that she can build a fire. And Elijah says to the widow, "Bring me a cup of water." And while she goes to bring a cup of water, he says, "And bring me a cake."

And she looks at him in verse 12 and she says, "As the Lord our God lives, I don't have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin and a little bit of oil in a jar. I'm gathering these sticks so that I can go and prepare that I may eat it and die.

She says, "This is it." Now, her circumstances are a circumstance of desperation, but so were everyone else's. Everyone else is in the same situation. Yet, she's acting in faith not based on the circumstance, but based on belief. If she acted based on the circumstance, she would have starved to death.

She would have said, "Look, I can't afford to feed you and me. I'm sorry. I don't have anything." But the Bible doesn't say that you are going to live by the circumstance. The Bible says the just shall live by what? Faith. You'll either use faith to live above circumstance or you'll let circumstance destroy your faith.

Elijah speaks to her in verse 13 and he says some very important words. Do not fear. Say that with me. Do not fear. Faith kills fear or fear kills faith. And Elijah said to her, "Make yourself a small cake, but make me one first, and afterwards make some for yourself and for your son."

He said, "In faith, give me what you need and see if God won't give back to you more than what you have." And then he said, "Here's the promise. For thus says the Lord God of Israel, the bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.

Now, according to the circumstance, she looks at this guy and says, "You're crazy." But instead, in faith, she goes and she went and she did. That's what verse 15 says. She went and she did. Say that with me. She went and she did. Do you know when faith starts working?

When you stop talking and start doing. The resurrection of Jesus Christ changed everything. In my new book, From the Tomb to Triumph, I take you through this resurrection truth from the suffering of the cross to the empty tomb and into the authority every believer is called to live in today. >> This month, for your gift of any amount to support the work of Hegy Ministries, we want to send you Pastor John Hegy's new book, From Tomb to Triumph.

And because she met the condition, she received the promise. and she had provision when others did not. God's promises are not circumstantial, they're conditional. So what are the conditions? The first condition is you fear the Lord. Psalms 34:9 it says, "Fear the Lord, you his saints, for there is no want or lack for those who fear him."

What is the reward for those who fear him? No want, no lack. So, what does it mean to fear the Lord? When you fear the Lord, it doesn't mean that you're afraid of God like he's going to hurt you. When you fear the Lord, it means you revere him and you honor him and you respect him and you take him seriously.

That means that when he says it, you believe it. And because you believe it, you do it. When you take somebody seriously, you do what they say because you know that they're going to act upon their word. So when you take God seriously at his word, when he says it, you do it.

The second condition is you seek the Lord. Psalm 34:10, it says, "Those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing." So there's no lack or want for those who fear him, and those who seek him shall not lack any good thing. What does it mean to seek the Lord?

It means that you constantly inquire, that you put him first, that you depend upon his counsel and his advice, and you do what he says before you do what somebody else says. And then the third condition is that you walk uprightly. Psalm 84 and 11 it says, "No good thing will he withhold from those who walk uprightly.

No lack or want for those who fear. No good thing does he withhold from those who inquire and seek him. And no good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. Walking uprightly means sincerely with the right motivation. You don't pretend like you're walking for God or living for God.

You actually live for God. Galatians chapter 6 tells us very clearly, there's no way to fake it until you make it. >> Because God is not mocked. He knows who fears him and he knows who acts like they fear him. He knows who seeks him and he knows who doesn't.

He knows who walks uprightly and he knows those who are playing pretend. But when you meet the conditions he has promised, no good thing will he withhold from those who diligently seek him. No good thing. And what God knows is whether or not the thing that you seek is good for now or good forever.

We don't really have the ability to know good from bad. We know what we think is good and we know what we think is bad. But only God is sovereign. He knows what you don't. He sees what you don't see. He can do what you don't what you can't do.

Which is why you fear him, seek him, and walk uprightly before him. Because if he has the ability to see it, know it, and do it, you should follow him. >> So, let's talk about temporary good. The Red Sea parting, temporarily good. If God would have left it open and not just let Moses and the children of Israel through, but let Egypt through, it would have been bad.

So he opens up a good way and Israel gets through and then he closes it and kills their enemies. What they survived in he used to destroy those who were after them. Why? Because he knows the difference between good for now and good forever. Mana when they needed it in the wilderness, was it good for now or was it good forever?

It was just good for the day. It was good for now. You had enough for the day. And if you tried to keep it, it was spoiled before the morning. >> The cloud by day, the fire by night, good for now or good forever. Just good for then.

They needed it to keep them warm. They needed it to keep them cool. They needed it to direct them across the wilderness until they got to the promised land. When they got to the promised land, no more mana, no more cloud, no more fire. Now, as God's children, some of the times when we see the good for now blessings go away, do you know what we do?

We complain about how good it used to be. We're worried about what he took away instead of looking forward to what he's promised he would do. Oh, the mana was so good. He said, "You got a land of milk and honey. You don't need mana anymore." Oh, the cloud by day and the fire by night.

You were sleeping in a tent in the sand. Now you can build a house in a city. Whenever you look back at your yesterday at what God did that was good for then, don't let it erase what he has planned in your tomorrow that is going to be good forever.

Because he's a God who keeps giving and giving and giving and giving if you will acknowledge him. God won't always give you what you want, but he'll give you what you need so that you'll continue to grow. This is why the Bible says, "It was good for me that I had been afflicted."

Psalms 119:7, "It was good for me that I had been afflicted that I may know your statutes." Psalms 119:75 it says,"I know, oh Lord, that your judgments are right and that in your faithfulness, you've afflicted me." The sincerity and honesty of the author says, "Look, if I hadn't gone through affliction, I wouldn't have learned the promise.

And if I hadn't learned the promise, I wouldn't know that I qualified for it." >> Nobody signs up for affliction. God's going to bless you. Yay. With affliction. No. But this is why the Bible says weeping may endure for the night. That's affliction. But the promise is joy comes in the morning. >> Joy comes in the morning.

So I say this in closing. You do not want to seek possessions. You want to qualify for blessings. People hear messages about God's provision and his abundance and they immediately say, "Well, you're saying that I can just go receive possessions." No, that's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is don't seek possessions. qualify for blessings.

And the way that you qualify for a blessing is you fear the Lord. You seek him and you walk uprightly. Jesus said in Matthew 6:33, "Seek first the kingdom of God and all of these things shall be added to you." Seek first. He's saying qualify for the blessing.

At the end of this service, I'm going to pray a prayer of blessing over you. And the Bible says in Proverbs 10:22, "The blessings of the Lord make rich and they add no sorrow." I'm going to pray for physical blessings and spiritual blessings and emotional blessings and financial blessings and based on God's word because it's already given through Jesus Christ.

If you put your faith in that promise, you leave here with the blessing that he's promised you. But if you doubt or if you fear or if you just say, "Well, I I I don't want that blessing." You disqualify yourself from receiving what God has already given you.

It's already yours. All you have to do is ask for it because the Bible says you have not because you ask not. My prayer in this series is that you believe for greater things. And the way that you believe for greater things is you not only find a promise of greater things, but you ask for greater things.

And what I've told you today based on his word is that greater things are yes and amen according to Jesus Christ. I don't want to live this life beneath what he has already provided. I want to live it in a space where I'm receiving greater than I could ask, than I could think, than I could imagine.

And that all comes through Jesus Christ. That's right. >> So today, if you have enough faith to ask for greater things, I believe he'll give you greater things than you can contain. If you believe that, say, "Amen." >> Would you stand to your feet? Church, if you want greater things today, I want you to lift your hands right where you are, and I want you to repeat this prayer in faith believing with me.

Lord Jesus Christ, >> Lord Jesus Christ, >> you are the living word. >> You are the living word. You are my redeemer. >> You are my redeemer. >> You are my savior. >> You are my >> And it is by your blood. >> It is by >> that I qualify >> to go into heavenly places he >> and ask in faith >> ask in faith >> and receive >> receive >> in Jesus name. >> in Jesus name. >> So today in Jesus name >> today in Jesus name.

Heavenly Father, >> Father, >> I'm asking you >> I'm asking you >> to pour out >> greater things >> in my life. >> And now I want you to tell God exactly where you want that blessing. If it's in your business, I want you to tell him exactly where you need that blessing.

If it's in your physical health, you tell him exactly what you're looking for in your physical body. If it's in your marriage relationship or with your children or in anything that you are endeavoring to see accomplished in regards to any area, trust me, God already knows all about it.

He's just waiting for you to ask in faith believing because Jesus said, "Ask and you shall receive. Seek and you shall find. Knock and the door shall be opened." Heavenly Father, in this sanctuary today, your children covered by the blood of your son and our savior are coming before your throne and they're asking for mountains to move.

Move them in the mighty name of Jesus. They're asking for blessings to be given. Open up the windows of heaven and pour out blessings that they cannot contain. They're asking for victory. So, I'm declaring today in Jesus' name that they are more than conquerors through Christ. They're asking for chains of bondage to be broken and burdens to be lifted and yolks to be destroyed.

Anoint them with your Holy Spirit that all of that and so much more would be done. Conquer and defeat sickness and disease. Destroy every power and principality that in any way would try to disrupt or interrupt what you are doing in their life. And give them victory in Jesus' name.

Give them blessings in Jesus' name. Give them joy unspeakable in Jesus' name. Give them peace that surpasses all understanding in Jesus' name. Because your word has promised that these blessings are ours for your glory through Christ Jesus. And we receive them because he's the God who can do exceedingly and abundantly above all that we could ask, think, OR IMAGINE IN JESUS MIGHTY NAME.

We declare it. We receive it. And all of the church said, "Praise the Lord. Give the Lord a hand clap of praise in this house today. Jesus Christ told his disciples that they would be able to do greater things than they had seen him do. How was he able to make this promise?

Simply because the same power that was alive in him was available to them through his word. That power is available to you today if you put your faith and your hope in Jesus Christ. Thank you for joining us. We look forward to seeing you again very soon. >> In a world filled with noise, one message still brings peace.
