good morning good morning everyone i want to welcome you to church this morning as well as the online folks how's everybody doing we're doing our weekly announcements so uh monday morning 6 a.m is sing that verse that bridge where it talks about where there was a wall now there's a way i always think about the children of israel and how there was literally a wall of water but god made a way where there seemed to be no way so i don't know what's going on in your life but if you need god to make a way where there seems to be no way if you need him to make a move in your life ((music playing)) then what we need to do is get on our knees and pray and get our feet in worship so would you join me this morning as we petition our lord for a move in our circumstances as we petition him for move in our hearts make no mistake he is able to ((music playing)) away is ((music playing)) stands is oh ((music playing)) blue ((music playing)) me ((music playing)) ((music playing)) oh ((music playing)) is please ((music playing)) sing his place ((music playing)) things ((music playing)) we got anybody desperate in the house for the presence of god this morning huh somebody need a miracle somebody need a breakthrough somebody need a touch of the lord come on right now get down to the front we're gonna keep on worshiping the lord i need about two or three hundred desperate people right now that don't care about what their neighbor thinks they don't care about what the livestream only is saying get on down here lift him holy hands if you've got to get on your knees if you've got to lay prosthetic on the floor then let's do it i'm telling you it's time we'll have an invitation at the beginning of the service await my soul and sing we got to get lifted up church we got to get woke up church i ain't talking about a walk church i'm talking about an awakening church amen you need something from god come sing it out sing it out sing it out watch what god will do in your life let make your way back to your seat you can all be seated all over the house thank you for letting us us host you today we are honored that you are here we'll do our best to keep the fans blowing a little bit it looks like we can start putting those heaters up start breaking the big fans out and things are going to start getting warm but we'll get us some more of those uh those funeral home fans amen i like it it's the only thing around here that we super super love uh throughout the summer time uh that represent something that's uh funeralistic right but we like him funeral home fans and so we'll order a bunch of them people like them we we sign them we've sent them things all over the country as mementos a memorial of being here we have people every week that take cedar chips with them i don't take like buckets of them but we have people that take cedar chips with them and use them as markers in their bible it's just a great experience amen i love what the lord's doing in his house i love what the lord's doing in this place and it's just beautiful to behold every week's different so many different people every weekend if everybody that came in just a few months time would all show up at the same service the titan stadium would not hold them i'm telling just so many visitors from all over america matter of fact if you are from out of town if you are not from the great state of tennessee or even if you are let me say it this way from the state of tennessee but you drove more than two hours we'll give you that one all right but if you drove more than two hours in tennessee but especially if you are not from tennessee stand up all over the tent for a moment just so we can honor you for wow look at that that's a lot of people thank you thank you thank you for being here you may be seated well let me remind you just a couple of quick announcements for tonight our six o'clock mass deliverance service how many of you are already here i know we have people that are driving in for that how many of you are already here are planning on being in the mass deliverance six o'clock step your hand up okay that's a lot of folks good good good good good people going to be getting some freedom in christ tonight don't forget doors open here at the tent five o'clock and we start right at six sometimes we'll give you a five minute window but please do not get here past 6 15 what do we say every week you'll have to come to another one no matter how far you drove because you're going to be missing some very good foundational meat from the word of god that teaches you about the roadblocks to deliverance and so we don't want you to miss that you can't miss the renunciation parts use the bathroom before you get in here and all that kind of stuff all right and so please do not be late tonight at 6 15 and i remind you it's at six don't be past 6 15. i remind you it is a non-pictured non-phone non-videoed service all right we ain't got to that place yet where we start recording our mass deliverances i know people online that do and i know good men of god that i follow and they're friends of mine that do but right now we don't all right and so no camera operations tonight whatsoever this is the only warning you'll get for that uh besides the one that i give tonight but you'll not get a secondary one all right once we say no cameras if we see a phone in your hand then you'll be escorted out by the security because we want people to know that there's freedom in christ and they can express themselves the way that they need to to get free amen we're not worried about dignity we're worried about deliverance amen and so tonight at six o'clock be in your place and watch what the lord is going to do i'm starting to notice there's mass deliverance services that are popping up all over america even pastor schaefer is about to be doing a mass deliverance service on sunday night may the 15th and so that's beautiful so we'll keep praying for him and we have people that want us to bring the manual and some of our team and really just all over the country try to propagate what we're watching here every single sunday night but i love the fact that it's just so simple it's so non-complex it's so down-to-earth because the power is in the name of the lord jesus christ and so please do not miss out tonight on our mass deliverance service we're going to be honored to have you and then many folks that will be coming in for that as well tonight will be week number nine for our mass deliverance sessions together and we are certainly honored by that well i want to ready our hearts and our minds and our hands to be faithful in our giving today the bible says that god loves a cheerful giver the word cheerful is the greek word hilarium it literally means hilarious you ever heard anybody break out in hilarious laughter would he ever have an offering not normally not normally and yet in the book of exodus did you know there was a time that moses stood up and he took what the bible refers to as the too much offering there was a time that the priest of god went through the the camp of the israelites and they were taking up money so that they could take care of the house of the lord and they gave so much and so extravagantly that moses stood up and said don't give another penny we've got enough we've got too much you ever been to a service where a preacher got up and said stop giving right now we've got too much well at the end of the day the bible says to be content with such things as we have and so let's be honest most of us do have too much most of us have everything that we need because what you have is enough and often we we think we have to pray for god to give us more when really what we need to do is just be faithful with what we already have be it a little or be it a lot it doesn't matter never pray for more if you're not a good steward of what you already have and so today we're just taking up a simplistic offering no frills no thrills no beggadociousness we never do that the only time we ever really hit hard for money is when we're giving the entire offering away and you know as well as i do that this week we're going to be giving a lot of money away but i don't have anything in particular that we're taking this offering for as far as other ministries we have all of our missionaries coming up on a monthly basis we have other people that we're blessing you know one of the things that's interesting is last sunday resurrection sunday there were three churches in this nation that had a grand opening service in a new building that global vision bible church purchased for them that isn't exciting that's super cool to me that is so super cool and so i just want you to be faithful to the to the ministry of the lord today because as we say when we invest in the kingdom god invests in the campus and are there needs oh yeah abundant needs but we want to take care of the needs of others we want to be a blessing to those that are around us that even flow somewhat out of the context of our narrative today in the book of acts and so i i'm just going to be light on what i say about the offering today because we already have a generous church and we're not generous because we take up good-sized offerings we're generous because we give most everything that we have away if you look at the books at our church i promise you every single month we are operating on a very small percentage and giving about 75 or 80 percent of everything we bring in to other people that's good stewardship and that's the way that it should be in a local new testament church it's not about all the fancy things it's about blessing other people and making their kingdom dreams come true amen and so today let's just be faithful as we honor other men and women of god around the nation we're getting ready for mother's day let me remind you that we do something on mother's day that is unusual and and and i think it ought to be announced because i want you to get to work i want you ladies in the room that know other single moms to get to work right now you remember what we did last year for mother's day and last year that was a super stretch of unimaginable faith for us and god blessed us so much that we're going to do it again over and more in abundance than what we did last year so in just a couple of weeks in just a few weeks i think it's the 12th of may we have mother's day and on mother's day we honor moms we honor the faithfulness of moms and flowers and all that kind of stuff but we always have a special time for single mothers on mother's day yeah i don't care how they're why they're single mothers i don't care how they're single mothers and how long i don't care single parenthood is a forgotten mission field in the united states because it's one of the most difficult things you will ever go through ever ever ever it's difficult and so on mother's day we always honor single moms we just do so on father's day do you honor single dads yeah we'll get around to that but we tell my mama's day right now amen and so i want you to start inviting every single they can come to our church one time and never again come back because we're not about trying to build a crowd we're trying to get people to gospel and build the kingdom through love and kindness and the mercy of grace of god so every single year on mother's day we give a boat load of money away to single moms and we don't apologize for that now last year we had to do check check check check check check check check check took us forever i actually called the bank this time and i said how in the wild world of a long time do i got a call in advance to get some cash it's crazy that banks have no cash these days and i said uh how long he called a couple weeks i said okay i'm putting in the order this week i need some i need some cash and some security to walk me back with the cash price call and we're gonna have a great big cash giveaway to single moms on mother's day a big one a big one ((music playing)) you say what if a hundred single moms show up i'm counting on it i'm counting on 200 of them showing up and so you invite those single moms and get them here we're going to be a blessing to them on that day and so as you give today just understand we're in preparation of that and so many more things that we want to do just to bless people for the sake of the kingdom father would you loose our hearts and our pocket books now in a spirit of generosity that we can bless other people lord you'll take care of the tent you'll take care of all the stuff around campus you'll take care of all the bills that need to be paid if we will just obey what you said you said try me and see if i'll not open the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing that you cannot contain we can never out give you because as so often we say we can never out guard you so father i pray that as we preach the word of god today as we pray as we worship as we give as we baptize converge as we have deliverance service tonight at six that we would be mindful of the fact that you have put us on this earth to be good stewards of your resources we do not own the resources we don't own the money in the vault we're just the tellers that work for the bank operator help us to be good stewards of every penny you give us so release us today in a spirit of benevolence so that this church can continue to be known around the world and in the kingdom as a church that just loves people enough to do what god told us to do and that is to give so bless us today with a heart of sacrifice and we'll thank you for it in jesus name and all of god's people said god bless you as you give today ((music playing)) this next song is one that's very dear to my heart ((music playing)) it talks about it being well with our soul no matter our circumstances because no matter our circumstances the lord is still good because our salvation is still in hand and i remember the first time i sing this song so interesting that pastor was talking about mother's day because i didn't expect him to and i wasn't going to share this but then he talked about mother's day so now i feel like i need to um ((music playing)) the first time i sing the song i was in the middle of a miscarriage and i knew that i was losing my baby and i had to lead worship and i needed to lead worship and that evening i did end up losing our first baby and i was singing it as well with my soul because his peace his goodness in the middle of adversity in the middle of loss is what gets us through and his goodness in the middle of greatness is what allows us to know what is great and you can't understand how good the lord is until you are in a bottom place in your life you can't understand how amazing it is to have the lord scoop you up from the bottom when you can't hold yourself together so if you are desperate today for a touch from the lord if you are in an amazing season in your life and you just want to praise him for his goodness his goodness is not dependent upon our season his goodness is not dependent upon our circumstances he is good because he is our father because he gave his life because he created us because he's already paid the ultimate price everything that we are up against has already been defeated has already been conquered so if mother's day is a trigger day for you or if mother's day is a glorious day for you or father's day or any other day i want you to know that it is well and it can be well with your soul so would you join and sing with me as we praise the lord for his goodness for his faithfulness ((music playing)) grandeur is great before move by the sounder's voice ((music through it only ((music playing)) and it is ((music playing)) with me ((music playing)) with me sing it again it is ((music playing)) is is ((music playing)) is ((music playing)) hallelujah it is well it is well you may be seated you know a lot of times uh people don't understand the historical narrative behind a song like that especially i know that's a little bit more of a modernized version of the hymn that we've seen but i never asked the band and i ever never asked miss monica what are they going to sing because it always dovetails together and they pray they fast they seek the lord but i just want to say this before i announce where we're going to be preaching and and i'm going to be in acts 20 so you can go there but i just i just feel led to share this with you that song was written by a businessman it is well with my soul his name was horatio spafford and he lost his son in the chicago fire many many years ago in the days of evangelist dwight il moody and there came a time shortly after that that he had to send his wife and his four daughters to england but because he had to close a business transaction and he was like the legal signer of it he wasn't able to go with them so he sent his wife and his daughters ahead to england and as the horrible thing would happen history tells us that the ship sank and only so many people got away his wife being one of them in a lifeboat and when she got to england she sent back a telegram that simply said saved alone whatever shall i do well he closed his business deal and got on a boat himself and he began to go and comfort his grieving wife which eventually he did and when the boat came over the area when the ship came over the area the captain of the ship knowing this well-to-do businessman horatio spafford brought him up on the deck and said sir this is the very spot where the boat went down and your daughters were lost at sea and there in that spot that night on a boat he wrote that song when peace like a river attended my way when sorrows like sea billows roll whatever my lot thou hast taught me to say it as well that is well with my soul he said them songs mean something somebody wrote those songs in the deepest darkest moments of their life and the ones that touch you the most are the ones that touch them the most that's why sometimes the most effective messages i communicate are the ones that god worked me over with first because you can communicate through your hurt you can communicate through your brokenness through your struggles that make sense well it had nothing to do with my message and so you can start your clocks now if you do that but if you're a clock watcher you probably walked into the wrong church today anyhow acts chapter 20 is where we are continue to pray for me as i preach i'm about two weeks into this just continual uh chest infection it doesn't really do much with my voice other than not let me get a lot of power to my vocal cords and so i'm gonna have these monitors and let the microphone do its work and it makes a little bit difference when i'm preaching over the fans but they're fine right now we don't have them on high but some summertime i feel like i have to overdo those fans but today's just great so it's going to be good well if you believe god brought you here for something to hear from the bible say amen acts 20 is where we're at i want to invite you to stand for a moment we've got quite a bit of word that we're going to go through today but not for the text for the text i'm going to start in the middle and then i'll back our way into what we're going to talk about and i'm just i'm super burdened and feel as if i'm super connected to the work of the holy spirit as i have prepared this message i actually have principles today we never have those but they'll pop up on the screens both for those that want to take notes or for those that are online and want to follow along but it's just it's a different sort of a context for me today but i'm just really burdened and i'm just really uh i guess mesmerized what has happened in american christianity and i just want to talk about it a little bit today from the text of god's word acts chapter number 20. in a moment we'll go to verse 17 but for times sake and text sake i want to go to verse 26 acts 20 and verse 26 paul says wherefore i take you to record this day that i am pure from the blood of all men for i have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of god take heed therefore unto yourselves and to all the flock over which the holy ghost hath made you overseers to feed the church of god which he hath purchased with his own blood for this i know do not miss what he says next that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you not sparing the flock also of your own selves shall mentalize speaking perverse things to draw away disciples after them therefore watch and remember that by the space of three years i ceased not to warn everyone night and day with tears and using much of this text even that which we didn't read i simply want to preach on this subject today the churches god warned us about the churches god warned us about thank you you may be seated father i pray that you would help me as i preach what you have so clearly laid upon my heart and my mind today for the people and lord i i pray that in the midst of my big personality in my demonstrative ways that you would keep me somewhat contained so that i can convey the message from a place of love not a place of arrogance from a place of boldness not a place of belligerence there are some things that are going to have to be said today that are going to be unbelievably abrasive as it were and so may i speak the truth but may it be spoken in love fill me with the wisdom the power and the anointing of your text because we know that the word of god is anointed all by itself and it doesn't need my help my opinion and so today use this message to speak to every heart in this room and every heart around the world that is watching now and we'll watch later and we're going to thank you for in jesus name and all of god's people said in acts chapter 20 the apostle paul is giving to the ephesian elders what we refer to sometimes as his swan song it was his last will and testament it was going to be the finality of any opportunity that he was going to have to continue to teach the people whom he had led to christ and discipled for a very long time and started multiple churches and campuses all over that particular region and the people loved the apostle paul not because he was a sellout but because he was a man that was willing to tell the truth even at the expense of often being misunderstood and persecuted which eventually led to his death history tells us that it was down the steps of the roman emperor's palace that his head was going to roll because he refused to bow to the dictates of a man and said i am going to obey the truth of the gospel of jesus christ so when we get to our text here in acts chapter number 20 i want you to back up to verse 17 so that we can understand who he's talking to and why he's doing it and from militants he's sent to ephesus that's from where we get the book of ephesians and he called the elders of the church so he calls the leadership of the healthiest church that he had started he calls the elders he calls the authority if you really he calls the staff he calls the people that have been discipling others and leading them to christ and baptizing them and teaching small groups and doing deliverance and watching miracles transpire he brings all of them together and he says now look it's been a good run boys it's been a good run for a few years but i got to get on a boat i got to go to rome and you are never again going to see me long before email long before text long before iphone and imessage and facebook and instagram they knew that there would never again be another update from the man that they loved and served with all of these years a man whom they considered their shepherd in the faith and paul said i'm going to have to leave and the end of the text in a moment will tell us that with sadness and brokenness they walked him to the boat and they said farewell man of god we'll never see you again this side of glory but we will see you again in the other side in the kingdom and the apostle paul begins to warn the elders that there is going to arise a new breed of christianity there is going to arise a new form of churchiness there is going to arise a false gospel and a false biblical narrative there is going to arise churches that are more interested in pleasing man than preaching the truth of the gospel and bringing pleasure to god almighty and he begins to explain what those churches will be like and we've come full circle and we see them everywhere today popping up like umbrellas all over the world but as he's giving the narrative of what he experienced he explains to us this is what new testament christianity looks like and this is what form is going to pop up that it should never look like because it has a form of godliness but it denies the power thereof and how many of you understand under this tent and watching online that the average church and i use my words loosely but i choose them wisely i'm not saying that we are any better than anyone else global vision has its own problems and inconsistencies that we have to grow through but i am saying we want to be a church that looks as if it popped right out of the new testament itself and looks like a book of acts church in every way and i think you know by now that when i say if god says stop we will stop and god says start we will start i think you know we mean business at this point ((music playing)) so when i use the phrase average church understand i'm not minimizing churches that are preaching the gospel i'm minimizing churches that don't care about the gospel they only care about their offering plates and the kingdom with which they build their campus not the kingdom of the lord jesus christ and so you would have to be honest that most churches in america and i am very loose with the term american christianity because it's far too american and not nearly enough christian but that's the context that we have it is powerless it is weak it is sickly it is anemic it is so lukewarm that in the last days of the laodicean period god says i will vomit you out of my mouth and i'm telling you 85 of what we call churches in america god would throw up on them if he were physically in the building and you know it's true whether you clap or not it's a shame what we call church in america and we have forsaken the clear teachings of the bible so that we can appear to fit in with a crowd that we are called to come out from and be separate to begin with so listen to me i am not a cultural christian i am a biblical christian the culture and the bible are on a collision course you cannot be politically correct and biblically right at the same time you cannot you just cannot i don't care what the news says i don't care what your mama told you i don't care what your pastor granddaddy told you you cannot hold hands with the world and god and expect god to bless your life because my bible says that we should not have any friendship with the world because he that is a friend of the world is the enemy of god so why is it that i can say that and everybody's like oh my goodness i can't believe he said that paul said have i now become your enemy because i tell you the truth you are either god's friend or you are the culture's friend but you are not one and the same at the same time you're not cultural christianity so paul said look when i leave and by the way he left and it's had two thousand years to mature he said there's gonna be some churches pop up that don't look like the bible there's going to be some false prophets pop up that aren't preaching the bible he said and even amongst you you're going to be deceived and the bible says in the last days the church will give heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of demons and guess what we are there right this very second so there are some things about churches that god warned us about many places we could go on the bible we'll stay here in our text and we'll develop as much of it as we possibly can i'll do my best to stay on point with time but i'm making no promises because i got a burden on my heart so he calls the elders in verse 17 and notice what happens in verse 18 and when they were come to him he said unto them ye know from the first day that i came into asia after what manner i have been with you at all seasons he said look i didn't just preach it i practiced it and a lot of the problems in the pulpit is we're not practicing what we're preaching we're telling everybody else to do it and we're not doing it ourselves serving the lord verse 19 with all humility of mind and with many tears and temptations which befell me by the lying and the weight of the jews and how notice please what he says i kept back nothing if it was funny he said i said it but if it didn't make you laugh i still said it if it hurt your feelings i said it matter of fact in first corinthians he said i wrote you a letter that made you sorry and i will not repent he said what that means that means he don't care he said i don't care if i take you off i wrote you the truth and if you get mad that's on you not anybody else and so he said look you know what matter i kept nothing back from you that was profitable unto you how many know sometimes you have to tell your kids things that are hard but it's profitable for their behavior it's profitable for their health you don't let them play in the road because it's profitable not to get in the road it doesn't make you a mean parent it makes you a good parent because you hold back nothing that's profitable to them but i have showed you and have taught you publicly and from house to house so here the apostle paul says look no matter how difficult it was for me to articulate i was willing to share with you the hard truths of the gospel remember when the disciples began to walk away from jesus in john the sixth chapter the bible says that many that had followed him for a long time left and he looked at his own twelve and said will you go also to which peter retorted and said to whom shall we go for perhaps the words of life but you know why they left because the disciples piped up and all said at one time this is a hard saying who can hear it there are no shortcuts to spirituality there are no shortcuts to a good marriage there are no shortcuts to deliverance there are no shortcuts to a godly church you don't build a good church on spare change and spare time and you don't build a good home by never being present when you're there you can't build a good relationship with god when the relationship is void and you spend more time on facebook than you do with your face in the book so paul said i have not shared with you easy truths so i want you to write down the first type of church that god warns us about i'm taking my time on purpose they promote attraction and avoid confrontation they promote attraction and avoid confrontation they call themselves attractional ministries it started years ago with willow creek need to be is seeker friendly you better be holy ghost friendly is what you better be because i'll grieve this whole town before i'll grieve the holy ghost i promise you that right now so they call them seeker friendly so here's what they were taught to do we got to be attractional in the way that we draw people so they would go door-to-door and they would say things like this we're starting a new church in town by the way this is how they built one of the first mega churches in america we're trying to build a church down the road and we would like to know have you ever been a church yes were you mad at church yes were you church hurt yes did you get out of church yes could you tell us the things that made you get out of church and we will make sure not to have them in the new one so the idea behind seeker sensitive christianity is to be so non-abrasive and so non-confrontational that when people show up it is the show that you have that attracts them and eventually they'll find a little bit of jesus that's so totally backwards from the bible by the way you see we have things that would seem attractional but let me tell you what i've never done and will never do i've never asked a lost person what do you think about the flow of our service i don't care what lost people think about the flow of our service i'm not called to slop the hogs i'm called to feed the sheep vote on everything all the way down to the color of the carpet and you have nothing but a committee not a church and they've become attractional but they're non-confrontational they say to churches like us oh my goodness you should not confront the culture how can we not confront the culture have you paid any attention to what's going on in it if some of you would confront your school board you would find out that your kids are learning absolute open pornography and you're going to tell me we're not supposed to confront that well you know we just need to let disney do what disney does down the road i'm not in competition i know a lot of us we grew up in these little churches that remember have the attendance board it was always like so embarrassing 550 people on the roll 22 people are in the seats 176 dollar and point 22 cent offering last week and i'm like why y'all always got that stuff on the wall even when i was a little kid i was lost as a ball in highways and i used to say who are you in competition with who cares how many had last week have you got this week people ask me all the time how many chairs did we have empty how many chairs did we have did y'all count i'm like i don't care why would i count there's more than a couple of you right well what difference would it make i don't have all these ambitious goals to be the fastest growing church in america i don't want to be the fastest growing church in america i want to be a solid growing church in america ((music playing)) you start introducing things like deliverance ministry and it'll slow down the rapidity of your growth but it will also take away the people that are weak and don't want the truth and bring in the people that are strong doctrinally and help you build the foundation because a lot of churches have what i call mushroom growth they grow real big on top but they ain't got a stem to sustain and they eventually fall over and they die and so there's a lot of people that have ambition but not like the apostle paul he was a man filled with anguish a man filled with brokenness a man that was willing to weep over things that mattered and paul said when i preached to you it seemed mean and heartless and jerkish but he said i did it with tears to warn you night and day for three years of what's coming and by the way we're there now because in the last days perilous times shall come you know every week and i've not been traveling a lot so i'm always here on saturdays for the most part got a couple things coming up soon but i love the 633 prayer gathering and just to help everybody why 633 matthew 6 33 look it up but you know it never fails we have preachers that visit we got one visit one of our missionaries from india we have pastors that visit every week and want to come you know to the services but they'll they'll come to the prayer meeting and you know i notice even dave benoit the guy that was preaching when i got saved was here last week that we honored i noticed he had his camera he was out he's like this is amazing people are shocked by the number of people that show up on a saturday night in an old white tent just for one thing just to pour their over the platform you see what we have to have is a church that is baptized in anguish so that we can have the power of god we got to get back to prayer fasting listen if we're going to be a church that stands in the authority of the name of jesus and cast out devils we have to be prepared for that we've entered a spiritual arena that few churches care to even talk about much less walk into we got to be filled with anguish you know what's amazing people can break down and cry over a dog food commercial come to church hear that their parents are going to hell and wonder when the preacher is going to shut up we've raised a generation of people that got more concern for house cats than they do the fact that people are gonna bust hell wide open without the grace of the gospel of jesus where are the people that are so filled with brokenness that they'll fall on their face at an altar and well before god and call out the name of that spouse that's going to hell call out the name of that prodigal son that prodigal daughter that could be brought back if you just simply fast and pray where are the people that are broken over the demonic invasion of their heart what are the people that are broken over their addiction where are the people that are broken over the powerless condition of the church in america where are they they're few and far between and boy we've got churches that tell you you do this you do this you do this you do this and you'll grow but not one of the things they tell you to do is have anguish of soul and pray into the night until the holy ghost shows up when those 120 people got in that upper room they didn't have a board meeting the only board in the bible is that one paul floated on when he shipwrecked in acts 28. that's the only one bored meeting my hind leg they didn't sit there and say well here's what we got to do now it's going to be the day of pentecost and peter when you jump up on that hickory stump make sure that you walk up very gentlemanly like make sure that you hold the microphone just so so that the shimmering glimmer of the sunlight comes down upon your face because it's all about the appearance peter you do recognize the fact that the band will be softly playing behind you and when you talk about things like repentance just like mouth it but don't let the word actually fall forth from your lips so it does seem as if you're preaching it but actually you're just a coward because you won't make the people feel good peter and so they sit up there in the upper room and they have this big board meeting and then one of them says well you know i uh i make a motion that we start at a certain time and that we end at a certain time because you know these these people in jerusalem they're hungry i mean look at the widows of the grecians and the widows of the jews they're fussing over bread and you cannot have a church service with hungry women there's just no way and so i make a motion that we start and stop within an hour i'll second that motion you think they set up in the upper room having a board meeting well you know we got to have the lights just right everything's got to flow just perfect and at the right time when you hear the right note on the piano peter that's when you lift up your voice and say men and brethren no no no no they didn't plan any of it matter of fact when they did plan it god suddenly showed up and wrecked their plans he's like your plans are stupid i like my plans better suddenly suddenly suddenly bam and they're like okay your way works better than our way you know what they did in that upper room they had anguish of soul they wept before the lord he said wait in jerusalem until you be endued with power from on high he said don't even have church until the holy ghost shows up and yet we got seminars on how to usher the holy ghost in he ought to be here before we even get in the tent the power of god ought to be so amazing and amazing and mesmerizing that when we show up we're like wow we ain't got to work up nothing it's like well you know we got to sing just as i am 47 times so somebody will finally walk the aisle and get saved no they finally walk the aisle because they're tired of hearing it and we have motivationally manipulated people to be more wicked than they already were before they got here and they didn't go in that room and say we're gonna plan this and plan this and okay at 1205 is when we walk up with the offering buckets listen i go places that have it down to the minute the whole thing is planned until i start preaching because i'm not i don't care about their plans you knew who i was before you called to office and booked me if you think i'm gonna fly to california so i can stroke your ego for five minutes and make you feel better about yourself oh contrera mo fuel no siree we're not playing those games this church needs to understand anguish like never before prayer like never before fasting like never before the authority of the name of jesus and the power of the blood of jesus like never before our worship should be filled with anguish my message should be filled with a broken heart our prayer meetings should be where people are weeping oh for the days when it's not just a deliverance service and people just start running to the altar and they start praying for their friends and family while i'm preaching while we're singing you see we ain't got no protocol we got alta call you can get right but anytime you want to but then i give you this last one and i promise i'm gonna have to quit i could do a whole series on each of these but i feel like i've stirred up at least what i need to do for a little bit verse 32 we'll finish the text and now brethren i commend you to god and to the word of his grace which is able to build you up which by the way he even says in the context that because he did not spare to tell them the truth he equated that to building them up because sometimes you have to break stuff down papa used to say if it ain't broke break it sometimes you got to tear stuff up get down to the fallow ground and seek the lord and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified verse 33 i have coveted no man's silver he said i wasn't doing this for money or for gold or for apparel yay ye yourselves know that these hands have ministered unto my necessities and to them that were with me i have showed you all things how that's so laboring you ought to support the weak he's talking to the church to the leadership and to remember the words of the lord jesus how he said notice he quotes him right here read letters it is more blessed to give than to receive and when he had spoken he kneeled down and he prayed with them all the fifth and final and certainly only final for this outline not final for the biblical precedent but the fifth and final for our outline church that god warned us about is simply this they peddle prosperity and neglect generosity listen to me i know because of the influence of our deliverance ministry we are often accused of getting off into charismatic theology whatever they call that if casting out devils is charismatic that's the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard jesus was casting out devils before it was cool but here's what they say they're moving into a more charismatic field theology of prosperity gospel now wait just a minute we may believe in casting out devils up in here we may believe that the gifts have not ceased and that they're still for the body you better believe we believe that but i'll tell you something we never moved into and we never will the damnation of prosperity theology don't ever insult this church so deeply you can call me anything you want to politically and in every other way but don't ever insult the intelligence of this congregation and this pastor by saying that we preach a prosperity gospel there is no more false gospel that has been belched and birthed out of the bellies of hell than a prosperity gospel a gospel that god's gonna make you rich a gospel that says you're gonna have a big house and a deep swimming pool and you're gonna drive a maserati look if god blesses you with prosperity then use it to be a person of generosity but fooly on this prosperity gospel that's why we give money away that's why we're not trying to build megaplexes and gigantic cosma hall buildings because a kid will do just fine to house the power of god these churches preaching this prosperity gospel you give us some money and god will bless you abundantly look we don't give to get we get the gift and he said it is more blessed to give than to receive all of us know that to be the truth i mean you wake up on christmas morning with your kids and know that to be true you like to see the joy on people's faces when they receive something that you gave them and there's something about giving that is so embedded in the framework and the fabric of the new testament church that i can show you at least three times in the book of acts alone that they sold their possessions and goods and gave to every man as they had a need jesus even said the foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests but the son of man doesn't even have a place to lay his head and didn't even have his own tomb and yet we got these preachers flying around in jets 25 to 5 000 suits 10 and 20 000 rolex watches i got a 50 deal from facebook and i like it listen i go to these places these preachers come flying in they won't fellowship with nobody they got to be in the green room eminem's got to be a certain color you know what i'm talking about some of these gospel singers this way too come walking in all holier than thou nose up in the air if it was the rain that flooded and drowned them people ask me all the time will how how much is it going to cost to get you to come to our church i'm like i'll pay to come to your church i don't want your money these people jet setting around the world make the rest of us look like fools give the church a black eye well they just live in high on the hog with all that tax-free money can i remind you we really do pay taxes that is the dumbest thing i've ever heard in my life the absolute dumbest thing i've ever heard in my life we ain't got no tax free rodeo going on around here and we ain't got no millionaires in the house and if we do they'd never come to me and everybody thinks well church is always about money nobody giving away money that's what it's about it's about being generous and kind prosperity gospel nonsense listen try that prosperity stuff where the man of god is from in india if it don't work in every continent of the world it's a false gospel trying to promote all that stuff third world countries where people are sick and starving to death well if you give to my ministry god will bless you and their family's starving there's nothing prosperous about that gospel now we could preach a whole message a whole series of messages against this prosperity gospel nonsense but i ain't having it and look i got some friends i'm just gonna go ahead and go on record because they'll be watching i love you not that's in prosperity i got some friends that hang out with a lot of them preachers that are in prosperity so i i'm praying that they'll they'll understand that evil communications corrupt good manners okay so i give some people i don't i don't believe in secondary separation i don't have to not like you just because i don't like the person that you like okay now if you involved in it that's different i ain't preaching for these prosperity nonsense preachers and they're not asking me to okay i'm not messing with their leader jets and their rolex watches and these stupid sneakers that they wear that cost 15 and 20 000 and they're in their church is starving to death okay i'm just preaching a little bit today okay he said it's more blessed to give than to receive and we got too many churches want to receive stuff not want to give stuff now i've done shows you over and over and we can't give it away fast enough as soon as we give it out comes in the mail soon as we give it out somebody shows up as soon as we give it out somebody put something online as soon as we give it out it comes back why it's the boomerang effect you give it out god give it right back and so i'm not getting this prosperity mess i like things that look good but you know what i love about our church amongst many things if i put out a facebook post i just got to quit if i put out a facebook post that said uh folks i'm sorry but next sunday we've had some minor complications and uh i'm gonna have to use a karaoke machine from the floor the screens don't work and uh the band's sick and so nobody can really have any music and there's not going to be any lights and you know no screens and pastors just going to have to stand on the floor with a karaoke machine and i understand if you don't want to show up but that's just the way things are going to have to be next week you know i would never have to apologize for that you know what happened next week with the karaoke machine this place be packed just like it is right now because you ain't worried about fancy sound systems you ain't worried about fancy carpet or cedar chips don't care if the screens are on or not are you kidding me the tornado tore this thing down we met the parking lot for three or four weeks it was freezing cold and people still getting baptized in the freezing cold y'all crazy as i am and i love it so you know it's hard with a message like this to to have a conclusionary moment to just be like oh okay let's bring the plane into the airport and land it on the tarmac and be done no it's difficult because there's ten thousand things be bopping around in my heart and in my mind that i feel like maybe should be said but will be saved for a later time that will be said but god warned us god warned us that we would be living in days when men would be lovers of themselves and lovers of pleasure more than lovers of god that people would heap to themselves teachers having itching ears and shall turn their hearts away from the truth and shall be turned into fables but watch down all things into afflictions do the work of an evangelist make full proof of thy ministry for i'm not ready to be offered and the time of my departures at hand i fought a good fight i finished my course i've kept the face henceforth there's laid it for me a crown of righteousness which the lord the righteous judge shall give to me and not to be only but to them also that love his appearing and the only thing i simply say in closing is this when i stand before god and i will as will you i want to be able to look my savior without timidity and fear straight in his glorious face if i may be able to behold such glory and splendor and say i have declared the whole gospel and i have not shunned to show the people the truth of god's word that's what i want to do that's what i want to do not because i need a hand clap from you but because i want to hear well done thou good and faithful servant enter thou into the joy of thy lord get on your feet give the lord some praise in this house this morning ((music playing)) he really did sweat man babe you were preaching amen you know i was down there and i was just randomly thinking which is never really too random for me why it would be that messages like today is so hard for people to be able to grab onto and why people get angry when they hear the truth of the word that way and i couldn't help but think that it's nothing more than pride right because in our pride we feel like we are in complete right standing with god and we can continue to do things the way that we've always done things and i was reminded of what the book of james said he said to draw nigh to god and god will draw naw to you but then he said to cleanse your hands ye sinners and purify your hearts you double-minded you know when we draw nigh to god the transformation really does happen because you can't be in a close relationship with the lord and be for one in humility because god doesn't have anything to do with pride because pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall so when we humble ourselves james also said humble yourselves in the sight of the lord and he will lift you up and i don't know about you but there's times in life that i just need to be lifted up there's times in life that i go through certain seasons and i just need the lord to lift me up and you know the one thing that keeps us from doing that is pride so today i don't know what you need to humble yourself before the lord about i could think of some things for myself but i wonder today if the church is in a place of pride or if the church is in a place of humility because it's when we come in humility before the lord and recognize that we need a touch from god because we don't have this figured out we've done church the wrong way for a very long time and we've expected god to move in our lives without humility so today i want to approach the throne room of grace with humility asking for grace upon grace so that we can go to glory upon glory father we come to you in the name of jesus lord and i confess here today in front of all of these people ((music playing)) that lord there are times that i don't even consult you about the important things in life about life-altering decisions and lord today as we come in humility before you father we ask for grace to grow in the knowledge of our lord jesus father that we could come to you in humility that we would draw not to you that you would come near to us lord lord we're in this season that your children should look up because our redemption draws not and father i often wonder if we're looking all around and never looking up to you lord i often wonder how often do we take the time to get into the secret place of the most high to have an upper room experience with you lord that you would pour your spirit out upon us father in this day more than anything the world needs to see the church be revived so that would revival would flood the streets that people would come to the truth of the gospel of the lord jesus that lord your church would live in such a way that the foolish would want to become wise in you lord that we would get to a place that we would humble ourselves in a way that we would go to the highways and hedges and compelled them to come in but lord in humility before you i ask that you would revolve the hearts of your people god that you would give us the ability to live with clean hands and with pure hearts lord that we would live a life of holiness for you said be ye holy for i am holy lord that you would teach us to live in righteousness father that we truly would be a people set apart a people that has came out from among them that herald the truth that lord not just our pastor would be able to say but father that we would be able to say individually that we have told them the truth that their blood is no longer on our hands no matter how mean it makes us seem lord would we love them enough to tell them that they are dead in sin dead and trespass but god who is rich in mercy because lord you are rich in mercy you have quickened us together with you and lord would that be our message to the world that we are dead in trespasses but god you are rich in mercy and lord we thank you for that in jesus name amen i want you to just keep your heads about an eyes closed for a moment i want to do a couple of things as we move into our baptismal celebration for the invitation and if you are being baptized today go ahead and make your way to my right your left over with miss billy and her crew to the baptismal tank just begin to line up over there and they'll get your name and everything that you need and all of our workers and so i see people moving so if you're going to be baptized go ahead and head that way today i want to do two things right now if you are in this tent right now right this very moment i'm talking to believers for a moment i'm talking to those that are born again you have repented and believed the gospel you're not perfect but you're different there's a transformation in your heart and hearing preaching like this although sometimes it can be a bit unnerving i wonder if maybe it hasn't struck something on the inside as far as courage and boldness is concerned as far as anguish is concerned and i want to invite right this moment any man in this tent any lady in this tent whether you've been here a hundred times or the first time you bebop through the door i wonder would you be willing to come right now and come right up to the front and get on your knees before god in front of all these people and say god today i want you to give me anguish of heart for those that are lost around me i want you to baptize me in boldness and give me so much courage that i'd be willing to look the devil flat in the face walk away unscathed don't let me be a coward don't let me die a coward don't let my kids see a cowardly mama and a cowardly daddy don't let my wife see a cowardly husband come on come on get some anguish of soul pray for that spouse pray for those kids that are prodigals pray for that mama and daddy that's going to hell pray for that church that you're from that you're visiting from that needs the power of god to fall that needs a touch from the holy ghost pray for your pastor that he would see the light of day and he would get a some gumption in his heart and a backbone for god turn your town and your church upside down come on don't miss when god's stirring the waters that's when you get in don't miss it don't miss it we can't go back we gotta mash the gas we can't give in we can't let the culture dictate what a church is supposed to look like when we clearly have the teachings of the bible many many folks pray and you take your time i want to ask this question to those of you that are still in your seats ((music playing)) would there be somebody here today that says you know what i'm still hung up on that second part because i've never truly repented and believed the gospel i didn't ask you are you wicked and i don't care if you're religious what denomination you grew up i'm asking you have you been born again sir have you been born again ma'am has there ever been an experience in your life when you've asked jesus to save you and forgive you forgive you of your rebellion your disobedience to come into your life and make you a new creature you can know for sure that heaven is your home and you can know for a fact that you don't have to go to hell you can know that today would there be somebody in this room right now you would slip up your hand i'm not going to embarrass you or come to you but just quickly quietly sadly but sincerely you'd let me pray with you today you'd slip it up and say preacher i'm not sure but i want to be sure that i've been born again by the grace of the gospel of jesus hold your hand up high sir hold your saved that's affirmative and if you slipped up your hand i simply want you to have a conversation with god and i'm gonna help you have one i want you to say something like this dear father i know i'm willing to let god do his work of grace in me and i believe with all of my soul the holy spirit met me right where i was when i stood or sat and i prayed that and i meant that and god invaded me today
