We're saved by ((music playing)) his grace, so we embrace your love today. We are changed. ((music playing)) [singing] We are in the middle. We started a series last week. I told you we're going to really take our time in this series. We're talking about, I believe, the the very bottom line reason why Satan can get things in our lives to happen or why we ask the questions, well, how come I didn't get healed?
Or why didn't I see the blessing in my life? Or how come I didn't get the raise? You know the foundation to all of that? Sin consciousness. Sin consciousness is the root to all of that. And so, we're doing a series entitled Sin Consciousness versus Innocence Consciousness. And it's so important that we get to a place where we are more conscious of our innocence and our righteousness than we are sin.
And so, one of the things I want you to to begin to understand is that I'm when I use the word consciousness and sin conscious, I'm talking about being aware. To When I say sin consciousness, cuz you can you can you can define that in a in some different ways, but in this series, when I talk about sin consciousness, I'm talking about being aware of sin.
When I talk about innocence consciousness or uh righteousness consciousness, I'm talking about being aware of the fact that you are innocent, that you have been acquitted, that uh you have been pardoned, and that you're more conscious of what Jesus has done for you under the grace of God than you are being conscious about sin and the shame that comes with it and the guilt that comes with it and the condemnation that comes with it.
If you just pause just for a moment when you're around people, you will be amazed of the magnitude of sin consciousness that comes in front of you. People are more aware of their sins than they are of what Jesus has already done. Now, that's a big deal. So, what Satan wants to do is keep people sin conscious.
He wants people to be more aware of sin than they are of righteousness. More aware of sin than they are of their redemption. More aware of sin than they are anything else, because whatever you focus on the most, that's what you're going to do more. You're going to do it more more more more because you're focused on it more and more and more.
So, this is something that I'm honored and privileged to teach our church so that as we come out of this, you'll begin to allow the spirit of God to escort you into all kinds of wonderful places. So, let's start here uh part two of this. 1 Corinthians chapter 15 and verse 34.
And let's read verse 34 out loud together. Ready? Read. Awake to righteousness and sin not, for some have not the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame. But a lot of people have the knowledge of sin, because the Bible says when you live by the law, the law the law where the law is is the knowledge of sin.
So, when you live by the law, then you have the knowledge of sin, but when you live by the grace of God and what Jesus has accomplished for you, you have the knowledge of God. And so, what Paul is saying here, I need He says, I need you guys to awake to righteousness.
So, obviously, we must be sleep to it. And so, there's this unconsciousness that Paul is addressing here. Paul is calling believers to awake, which implies a shift from unconsciousness to consciousness. And now, this could mean wake up from sin consciousness, which keeps people trapped in guilt and failure.
He says, wake up to sin uh uh from this sin consciousness. You're still trapped in guilt. You're still trapped in condemnation. You're still trapped in failure. Wake up from this failure. And wake up to what? Wake up to the innocence consciousness, which recognizes righteousness in Christ. He says, wake up to righteousness.
So, the phrase awake to righteousness suggests that righteousness is already a reality. It's not something he's asking you to create. He is saying, wake up to something that already exists. But a lot of people are still unaware of it. And the sad part of it is a lot of church folks are still unaware of their righteousness.
That most A lot of people who attend church, a lot of people who are born again, are more sin conscious than they are righteousness conscious. They are more aware of sin and and and and a consciousness of it. So, sin consciousness keeps people in an unconscious state living as if sin still defines them.
Sin consciousness, you're living like Jesus hadn't done anything about it. Sin consciousness is still living and allowing sin to de- to find your identity. So, the Apostle Paul's exhortation is for believers to step into the awareness of their true identity in Christ, where sin loses its dominion because they are no longer living under the law, but they are now living under grace.
Romans 6:14 tells us that we are no longer to be living under law, for sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under the law, but you're under grace. But notice in this same verse, if you live life under the law, those 613 we talked about last last week.
If you live life under the law, sin can dominate you because you have the knowledge of sin and that knowledge creates an awareness of sin. And, you know, he says, live under grace and because if you keep living under sin consciousness, you can't see nothing but sin. You can't see nothing but sinning.
You you'll sit back and you'll reflect on the sinful mistakes you've made in the past and you sit up there and think about that and it's like Jesus hadn't even come. It It's like we celebrate Easter and talk about he he was resurrected from the dead and that he arose and he arose and he arose for what?
You're still as sin conscious after you got saved as you were before you got saved. And in order for God to do what he wants to do in our lives, he's got to get us to understand how powerful it is to walk away from this sin consciousness and to accept uh this righteousness consciousness.
So, let's dig into this a little bit now. Let's go to the book of Hebrews chapter 9 and verse 28. Hebrews chapter 9 and verse 28. Let's read it in the NLT first. And then, I want to read it in the Mirror Translation. Hebrews chapter 9:28. So, I'm going to try to convince you today that sin is no longer on the agenda.
And a lot of Christians think it is. They think, well, you know, um you know, uh Jesus don't love me if I if I if I sin. Well, he died so you don't have to sin. He died to deliver you from the sin nature and from the sin behavior.
He did. But your sin consciousness keeps you doing the same thing. So, I I got to convince you today that it's already been dealt with. It's finished. It's dealt with. Uh it's not on the agenda. The sin meter has been turned off. That sounds strange, doesn't it? Cuz that ain't what you're hearing in church.
The sin meter has been turned off. Now, does that mean you just well, since it's turned off, I might as well sin. No, no, no, no. When you be When you When you are less sin conscious and more righteousness conscious, you're going to be moved more to righteousness.
You ain't You're not going to be interested in sinning like you used to sin. Okay? Because the consciousness of it is not there anymore, because you're not giving it the nourishment that you you normally give it. I promise you, go go to Well, I don't want you to do that, but let's say the churches you have gone to.
I was going to say, "Well, go to any church." The churches you've gone to. I remember churches I've gone. All I heard was sin, sin, sin. And then, when they hear me preach grace, they say, "The problem with Brother Dollar is he don't He need TO PREACH ON SIN some more.
And people need to be accountable to their sin." Rick, I need to be accountable to my righteousness. And if I'll be accountable to my righteousness and I do what Jesus has already done, the sin consciousness will take care of itself. Are Are you listening to me? So, this is something people have in their head.
You're trapped in your your your mind. Sin consciousness is a trap in your mind. All right, so that's what we going to do today. Through scripture and through the word, I'm going to try to show you it's not on the agenda. It's been dealt with. "Oh, you better get right.
You better This ain't Santa Claus coming to town and you better get right and and all that stuff." You You You got right when you got saved and you got right when Jesus presented all of your righteousness. And when you accepted him, you got right. You can't get no more right than what Jesus gave you.
I know it sounds weird because I say stuff and you're trying to say, "Sounds like a false prophet to me." It sounds weird. It's just I'm talking to you from a perspective you haven't been spoken to before. You have been preached the law all your life. You've been preached under the old covenant all your life.
And under the old covenant, it's about what you do in order to get God to do something for you. And if you don't do, then something's going to happen bad for you. The Bible's The Bible says in in Deuteronomy 28, if you look at it, if you if you obey God, then you're blessed.
But if you disobey God, you'll be cursed. And you're still walking around thinking what you did two two two years ago or last week now got you under curse. Since Jesus has come and was raised from the dead, YOU AIN'T YOU ARE YOU HAVE BEEN DELIVERED FROM THE CURSE.
IT IS NOT ABOUT WHAT YOU DO. IT'S ABOUT WHAT HE HAS ALREADY done for you. Sin is no longer >> [screaming] >> a part of the agenda. I'm going to go viral. BUT IT AIN'T NO LONGER A PART OF the agenda. So, now That's a bold statement. So, now, if you believe the Bible and if you believe scripture, I can show that to you.
You want to see? Okay. All right, fair enough, right? Hebrews chapter 9 verse 28. In the NLT, let's read out of that first and then we're going to go to the mirror and we're going to look at about two or three of these, all right? All right. So, also Christ was offered once for all times.
Now, Christ was offered as our sin um sacrifice or the payment for our sin. So, Christ was offered to pay the ransom to deliver us from sin. Christ was the offering. He's the peace offering. He's the sin offering. And he was offered. And that was done almost 2,000 years ago.
So, also Christ was offered and he would did it once and for all times. Christ is not jumping on the cross every time you sin. What he did he did once and for all, right? So, also Christ was offered once for all times as a sacrifice, a sin sacrifice, to do what?
To take away what? So, the purpose of Christ's offering on the cross was to do what? SO, ALL THIS STUFF WE TALK ABOUT, "OH, JESUS DIED ON THE CROSS. HE WAS WHIPPED with a cat-o'-nine-tails. Oh, Lord." That was to take away the sins. IT WASN'T TO TAKE AWAY THE SINS so you can sin more.
It was to take away the sin SO YOU'LL BE LESS CONSCIOUS of sin so you'll start operating in the righteousness that you now believe more than the sin consciousness. He was sacrificed to take away the sins of the of many people. He will come again not to deal with our sins.
So, if you look at the agenda that Jesus has when he comes again, sin is not on the agenda. He will come again but not to deal with our sins. Is that what it say? So, if he's not going to come to deal with our sin, why is he not coming to deal with our sin?
I mean, you've heard THAT ALL YOUR LIFE. WHY IS HE NOT COMING TO DEAL WITH OUR SIN? HE ALREADY DEALT WITH OUR SIN, RIGHT? WHEN DID HE DEAL WITH OUR SIN? ON THE CROSS AND WHEN HE DIED, RIGHT? That's it. OUR SINS HAVE BEEN DEALT WITH. >> ((cheering)) >> Not to deal with our sins but to what?
Bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him. Salvation So, this is when he was raised from the dead and he brought salvation as a result of him being raised from the dead. It's not talking about a future future coming of the Lord. Most people look at this scripture as futuristic.
It's not. It's talking about the fact that when he was given as a sacrifice almost 2,000 years ago, that sacrifice dealt with our sin. And now, when he comes back from that sacrifice, he's coming to give salvation or soteria or wholeness to all who are eagerly waiting for him.
And so, now you can get born again. Now you can be whole. Now you can be delivered. Now you can be all of these things that you couldn't be before. HE SAYS, "I DEALT WITH YOUR SINS as a sacrifice. NOW I'M getting ready to deal with your salvation as you live the rest of your life."
Uh okay, Romans chapter 4. This is not on the my notes, but I'm thinking about it. Romans chapter 4 verse 6. Romans 4 and 6. David also spoke of this when he described the happiness of those who are declared righteous without working for it. Uh David spoke of this when he described the happiness of those who are declared righteous without working for it.
You were declared righteous without working for it. And what have we done in the church for a million years? We've been trying to work for it, haven't we? Trying to work for it. Trying to work to be righteous. What you doing? I'm going to church cuz I'm working to be righteous.
What you doing? Well, I didn't cuss all right cuz I want to be righteous. You're righteous only because Jesus is righteous. All right, so now watch this next verse. Verse 7. Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven. Oh, I'm rejoicing over that. My disobedience has been forgiven.
I said my disobedience has been forgiven. I said my disobedience has been forgiven. Hallelujah. Whose sins are put out of sight. YES, WHAT JOY FOR THOSE whose record the Lord has cleared of sin. Now Now Now read verse 8 in the in the in your in the King James version cuz I want you to make sure you know this word that they use in the King James.
The word impute. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute. That's a word that means when I impute something to your account, I charge something to your account. And right here he says, "Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not charge sin to your account."
The meter has been turned off, guys. And somebody says, "Well, how come I keep sinning?" Because you're still sin conscious. You're still sin conscious. That's why you That's why you keep sinning. "Well, I'm I'm I'm trying not to smoke weed no more. Why I keep smoking weed?" Cuz every time you smoke one time, then you get sin conscious and then you smoke it again, you're more sin conscious.
And you don't believe that he's made you righteous and you focus more on your sin consciousness and that's what keeps the sin behavior going. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute. No, will not. No, will never. Study the the the original words here. He will not.
No, will not at any time. Will not. No, the emphasis he puts on that. No, will not. Never not ever will he ever impute sin to your account. You better be careful if you don't want your record to be full of It ain't going to be on there. >> [laughter] >> Hold on a minute now.
Hold on a minute now. In In In our law in the United States of America, once a case has been determined one time and they said you are innocent of these charges. You can't go back and try that person for the same case. They They call it what?
Double jeopardy? Y'all understand what I'm saying? So, for Jesus to forgive us of all of our sins and declared innocent, I can never be tried again for the case of sin. >> ((applause)) >> Y'all don't know what I know it's strange. SOME OF Y'ALL BECAUSE YOU SIN CONSCIOUS. EITHER YOU SIN CONSCIOUS OR YOU JUST LEFT SIN.
YOU YOU SIN YOU SIN CONSCIOUS. >> [laughter] >> SO IT'S HARD TO HEAR THIS WHEN YOU SIN conscious because you're needing to justify your actions. Ooh boy. Our God is good. I'm going to let y'all just meditate on it just for a minute. Wow. Titus chapter 2 verses 12 through 14.
Titus chapter 2 verse 12. Somebody says that in the Bible? Yeah, that's what I'm trying to show you. We >> [laughter] >> This this stuff in the Bible. You ready? Let's let's start at verse 11 in King James. I want you to get the context. Context is key. Now, I'm you know, when I first heard this the only thing going in my head was, "Well, does that mean I keep sinning?
Does that mean I keep sinning? Is this a license to sin?" No, it's not a license to sin. It's a license to be righteous. Not a license to sin. Grace doesn't give you a license to sin. Grace is your way out of sin. All right, now watch this.
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation. Remember Jesus said he's coming back to to give salvation to all those who await. Grace is a person. Grace is not a curriculum. Grace is not a subject matter. Grace is a person. John chapter 1, I believe 14, Jesus full of grace and truth.
So grace is a person. So we're not talking about some some some some curriculum here. It's It's a Jesus is grace. Grace Jesus is full of grace and truth. So when we talk about grace, we're talking about Jesus, the king of grace. He is grace. For the grace of God that bringeth what?
Salvation. I just showed you the scripture where he says he's coming back to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. For the grace of God that bringeth salvation, he has appeared to all men. In other words, what he desires to do, he has done for the entire human race.
Already. For every living person, every living person on the planet has access to this grace. Has access to be pardoned. Has access to walk in the freedom of sin. He says for the grace of God that bringeth salvation unto salvation has appeared to all men teaching us. So Jesus wants to teach us that denying ungodliness and worldly lust.
He said he'll teach us. You've been trying to teach yourself. He says, "I'm going to teach you how to do this." Part of the new covenant was he said that no man you'll have no need for any man to teach you, but the Holy Spirit will teach you.
