The Mystery Of Prayer
Transcript
Today I want to talk to you about something very very important to do with prayer. The mystery of prayer. This is something so important. It's so powerful. I pray the Lord will really help all of us to understand something from his word. It is so lifechanging and wonderful.
Jesus, I thank you for your word. To you, Lord, be all the glory, all the honor, and all the praise. And God's people said, "Amen." Amen. And thank you. Thank you. I really mean this for being my wonderful family being with me today. The whole universe was created for one purpose, to provide a habitation for the human race.
And the whole human race was created for one purpose, to provide a companion, an eternal companion for our precious Jesus, the son of God. Think about that. After the fall of man, God promised redemption. In fact, let's go together to Genesis 3. We're going to look at verse 15.
Because he promised redemption through his son. It says, "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman and between thy s and her seed. It shall bruise thy head." And that word it, by the way, is he. He shall bruise literally. He shall bruise thy head and thou shall bruise his heel.
And this deals with the cross, the work of Calvary. So now God's word gives us in the old covenant the genealogy of the messianic race. So it begins with Adam, goes to Seth, goes to Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and so forth, right to David. When you go to the New Testament, Matthew gives us the genealogy of Joseph, Luke, the genealogy of Mary to prove that Jesus came from the line of David.
Joseph came from Solomon. And Luke gives us something powerful about Mary that uh the Lord's mother came from Nathan, his brother. So it's so powerful that you see this incredible truth in scripture how the Lord came from David. Now the birth of the church was the reason for creation.
The birth of the church was the reason why Jesus came. So the Lord came to earth for one reason and one reason only, to give birth to his church, his bride. So the one purpose for creation, think about this with me, the one purpose for creation, the world.
And of course, humanity is to produce and prepare an eternal companion, the bride, the wife of Christ, the church, the son of God. Wow. In Revelation chapter 21 verse 9, and there came unto me one of the seven angels, which had the seven vials full of the seven last days blades, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will show thee the bride, the lamb's wife.
Wow. Think about that. The Lord would create the world The entire human race for one reason that the church would come forth, you and I would come forth to be the bride for his wonderful son. We are called the lamb's wife. This is so moving to me. So moving.
And I know moving to you because the Bible says that the bride will share his throne. Now this is this is like one of those things very few people talk about and maybe even most don't even understand. In Revelation, in Revelation 3:21, the Lord makes an amazing statement and he says, "To him that overcomes will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame and am set down with my father in his throne."
Just think about that. To him that overcomes. What does that mean? How do we overcome? What did the Lord really mean here? To him that overcomes will I grant to sit with me in my throne. Even as I also overcame and sat down with my father in his throne.
Overcoming happens only when we pray. Saints, when you and I begin to pray, we become partners with God Almighty. And that's when we overcome. Without prayer, there is no overcoming. So when you read that verse, to him that overcomes will grant to sit with me in my throne.
For for the church to sit with the Lord on the throne, she must be trained. She must be prepared to rule with the Lord. This overcoming is necessary for authority, for rule. The Bible tells us that the saints will rule the kingdom in the millennium reign of Christ and frankly forever.
It says the kingdom shall be given to the saints in the book of Daniel. And I'll show you some amazing scriptures also here later. But we as the church must be trained. We must be prepared. We must be trusted for rule. And so the Lord says to him that overcomes will I grant to sit with me in my throne even as I also overcame.
So you and I need to understand how do we overcome? What does it mean? God ordained. Now listen carefully. God ordained that prayer. That prayer would be the only key that would overcome the devil and all his forces and the world we live in. God ordained that only prayer will cause us to practice authority that will allow us to exercise. authority that will give us what it takes training on the job basically for authority.
Think about this that prayer is God's master plan. God's master plan in producing overcomers is prayer. Prayer only prayer overcomes. Think about when you pray what happens. I have said so many times prayer is omnipotent because it can do anything God can do. All things are possible to him that believes to him that prays.
It's in the Bible. The Lord said nothing will be will be impossible if you pray. It's throughout the gospels. It's throughout the whole Bible. So prayer is God's master plan that will produce overcomers. Hallelujah. Overcomers for the throne. Jesus said uh said the Lord said to him that overcomes will I grant to sit with me on my in my throne.
So prayer is not to assist God in overcoming the devil. Prayer is our exercise. It's our practice in overcoming the devil. Let me say it again. You like this there, Lucas? Prayer is not to assist the Lord to overcome the devil. Prayer gives you and me the practice, the exercise to overcome the devil because every time we pray, we overcome the the the enemy.
So like I said, prayer is God's training program. Every time you and I pray, we are being trained for rule. trained for having authority. This is so so so powerful. It's on the job training for the throne. Prayer is on the job training for the throne, for authority against the nations, over the nations.
Remember God's eternal purpose. I said this, I want to say it again. God's eternal purpose, in creating the world, in creating humanity is to find a companion for his son, to choose a companion for his son. And the Bible tells us something amazing in Ephesians chapter 1. In fact, the the whole book of Ephesians deals with one thing, the preparation of the bride.
Who is the bride? What what has God planned for the bride? Who is she? Even though even though it doesn't mention the word bride, if you read Ephesians 5:32, we see the heart of the book. Come on. Let's let's go to it. Let's go to it. Ephesians 5.
This is like the uh the announcement of the book. This is the great mystery. But I speak concerning Christ and the church. Paul is is explaining a mystery. Marriage is only a picture of that mystery. And he talks about that because it says that he he may present us a glorious church not having spot or wrinkle.
Now, we'll go back and reread this in just a second, but I want you to go with me to Ephesians chapter 1. And I know we we've read this many times, but see it in the light of what I'm teaching, what I'm saying that the whole reason for creation, creating the world, the universe, entire creation is to bring forth the human race.
The entire reason for creating the human race is to bring forth the bride, the church out of the human race. And the Bible tells us in Ephesians 1, beginning at verse three, blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ, according as he has chosen us in him, hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy without blame before him in love, having predestined us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself according to the good pleasure of his will to the praise of the glory of his grace wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved and when you read this entire chapter it's focusing on God choosing the church and it says in whom we have redemption through his blood the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of his grace.
The Bible talks about seven covenants. One of them, one of them is called the eternal covenant. That's when the father, the son, and the holy spirit had a conference together and planned our salvation and wrote your name in the lamb's book of life before the foundation of the world.
In Revelation 13, it talks about how Jesus was crucified before the foundation of the world where how in the heart of God. So when the when the when you see in the old covenant and you read about the animals that were sacrificed, it was only a picture of the blood of Christ.
So when God saw the blood of those animals, he did not see the blood of those animals. He saw the blood of his son already shed in his own heart. Now, you know, there's so much here I can say, but I'm I'm going to just focus on one thing.
You know, that the church is the reason for creation. The church is the reason for the human race. That God chose the church out of the human race. And it's all over the Bible. God chooses Abraham, then Isaac, then Jacob, then the nation of Israel, through whom came the Messiah, and the church both of Jew and Gentile are the bride of Christ.
Now, in Romans 8, it talks about how the Lord, let's just go back. Let's look at Romans 8 and let's look at verse 29. This is so remarkable to me. For whom he did forno, he also did predestinate. So like I I just said that our names were written in the lamb's book of life before the foundation of the world because it says so in the Bible.
He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his son that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover, whom he did predestinate, them he also called. And whom he called, them he justified. And them who he justified, he also glorified. That is sharing with him his own glory.
He glorified. It says he said, "Father, I will that they whom thou has given me be with me what I am, that they may behold my glory. And the glory which you have given me, I have given them that they might be one even as we are. That's in John 17.
This is amazing that we should be one with the Lord. 1 Corinthians 6:17, he that is jo. We are one with the Lord. No angel has that privilege. No archangel has that privilege. Only the church, the redeemed. We are the redeemed. And you go back and you look again at, you know, I just want you to know who you are.
I really want want you to know who you are. The church, who you are. And the church is nothing to do with a building. It's those who accept Jesus Christ as savior, the redeemed. Whether you're Catholic, whether you're Baptist, Lutheran or Methodist or Pentecostal or Charismatic, if you are born again, if you know the Lord Jesus as Savior, you are a part of that glorious body called the church.
And it says in Ephesians 1:16 that well Paul says I cease not to give thanks for you making mention of you in my prayers that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ the father of glory may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation and the knowledge of him the eyes of your understanding being enlightened that you may know who you are that you may know what is the hope of his calling why he called you and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.
What is the exceeding greatness of his power to us who believe according to the working of his mighty power which he wrought in Christ when he raised him from the dead and set him at his own at his own right hand in heavenly places far above all principality, power, might, dominion, every name that is named, not only in this world, but that also which is to come, and hath put all things under his feet.
Now watch this. And gave him to be the head over all things to the church, which is his body. The church is his body, the fullness of him. The church is the fullness of him that fills all in all. You are the fullness of Jesus who fills all in all.
Would you please say that? Just say, I'm the fullness of Jesus. We are his body, members of his body, flesh of his flesh and bone of his bones. It said, and again, Ephesians 5 talks about very clearly. Well, in fact, let's go to it one more time. No, I'm going to continue this tomorrow.
There's so much in there. Order of God, there's so much in there. So let's go there to verse uh let's begin with okay I'm going to begin reading I'm going to begin reading at verse 26 that he might sanctify and cleanse it. No I'll go back verse 25.
Husbands, love your wives even as Christ loved the church and give himself for it, that he might sanctify and cleanse it, the washing of water and the word. He might present it to himself a glorious church that having spot or wrinkled or any such thing, but that it should be holy and without blemish.
This is incredible. And then it says we we are members of his body. Verse 30, of his flesh and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother shall be joined to his wife. The two will be one flesh. He said this is a great mystery.
But he said, I'm speaking concerning Christ and the church. Marriage is only a very cheap example really of the true oneness between the church and the Lord and the Lord and the church. So here we see it. It's so powerful that God's eternal purpose for the church. Think about this.
In God's amazing eternal plan, amazing eternal purpose. The church is to occupy is to occupy with Jesus his son the highest position in heaven and on earth and in the universe. Tomorrow I'm going to continue because I want to show you prophecies about what the Bible says about the church.
You know earlier I mentioned the genealogies. It's remarkable that in the Old Covenant, you see the Lord's genealogy. You know, God promised redemption through the seed of the woman in Genesis 3:15. Then you follow the seed, Christ, and you see him throughout the old covenant, in Adam, in Seth, in Noah, in Abraham, in Isaac, in Jacob, right through David.
And God makes covenant only with those who carried the seed. For example, God made a covenant with Adam and with Noah and with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob and with David. And now the Lord comes and makes one more covenant with the church. Remember that. But there is that eternal covenant that the Bible talks about where God made a covenant with himself.
That's why he said, "By myself have I sworn to Abraham." Now, this is really important. In the old covenant, you see the seed, the Messiah, and now you see him through the tribe of Judah and through King David and especially his son Solomon and Nathan. Solomon the father of Joseph, Nathan the father of Mary.
So both Joseph and Mary came from David. Remarkable. Now the New Testament begins with the with the genealogy of Joseph. But then in Luke we see the one of Nathan's because in Jeremiah God placed a judgment on the seed of the kings of Israel because of sin who came from Solomon.
He said, "No man will sit on the throne." That's a whole different teaching, by the way. So Jesus then had to come from Nathan. Nathan through Mary. That's why it says her seed, not his seed. So this is intriguing material to be honest with you. So, and I'll teach on this maybe later to show you where that is said in Jeremiah where where God brought judgment on the seed because of sin when when when uh Zedekiah and and before him you know Janiah rebelled before them you know Amnan and so on.
God brought judgment on that line on that on that on that on that line. And so Jesus could not come through Joseph. He came through Mary, the seed of the woman, it says. So the New Testament gives us the the the the big picture, the full picture of the Lord came from David.
Now he is the Messiah proven over and over and over again in scripture. Now ladies and gentlemen, this is so powerful because that God Almighty should create the world and humanity to choose a wife for his wonderful son, the church. And that prayer would be the Training for rule is amazing.
So every time you pray, you are being trained. Lord, thank you for your wonderful word. To you be all the praise, the glory, and the honor. Open our eyes that we might behold wondrous things, Lord, out of your word. To you be the praise. Well, thank you for being my wonderful family and partner.
