The Courage to Change - Pt 2 | Enjoying Everyday Life | Joyce Meyer Well, I wanted to thank you for watching our YouTube channel and for those of you supporting our efforts to produce these videos. Thank you. Thank you. You are part of spreading the gospel around the world. If you're not a partner, prayerfully consider joining our efforts to help others the way you've been helped through the teachings. We can only imagine all the places God sends these videos once we post them online. But because it's filled with his word, we know it's bringing light into dark places. Scan our QR code and give today. It's a decision that provides everlasting benefits to you and those waiting to see these messages. >> This program is supported by you, our viewers, and our partners. >> To make that change, I had to pay the price to do it. And you have to realize if you're going to do something for God, there will be a price to pay. >> Amen. >> Amen. There will be a price to pay some some way somehow. And usually it's somebody who finds fault with what you're doing. I'm Joyce Meyer and I believe that God can heal you everywhere you hurt. In Joshua 1 1-9, it says, "After the death of Moses, the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua, the son of Nun, Moses's aid, doesn't mean the son of Nun like N O N E, but N U N. Moses, my servant, is dead." Now, that's an interesting thing because they'd already been mourning Moses 30 days. >> So, now God says he's dead. Get it? He is dead. And what he was really telling Joshua is, it's time to get up and start moving >> your days of sitting around mourning over what's not here anymore. >> Come on. There's some people who need to hear this. Yeah, >> you know, you can live your whole life looking at what you've lost. >> Or instead of doing that, you can look at what's ahead because there is something good ahead for every single person. >> Yes. >> If you put your trust in God, your life will be blessed. >> There's no doubt about that. And there's not a person sitting here or a person watching who hasn't had >> loss. At some time when God called me into ministry, I was in a denominational church and I'd been filled with the spirit and I was so excited and I was telling everybody and they told me I had to stop doing that. You got you got to be quiet about this. And uh I mean I'm not the type to be quiet anyway, but you know it was I I was just too excited to be quiet. And so we got called before the elders and they gave us a choice. You can either shut up or you can leave. >> Oh wow. >> And so I kind of got the left foot of fellowship out of there. >> And I drive by that church every time I drive here to the office >> and I think it's kind of funny. And uh so I lost all my friends. Our whole social social life revolved around that church. We had people judging and criticizing and talking about us and our kids went to school at the church and it was hard for them. And I mean it was like to make that change I had to pay the price to do it. >> And you have to realize if you're going to do something for God there will be a price to pay. Amen. >> Amen. >> There will be a price to pay some some way somehow. And usually it's somebody who finds fault with what you're doing. >> Yeah. >> And so, interestingly enough, the pastor said to me, I can't say that there's no proof of what you say happened to you in the Bible, but it's not our doctrine. But to me that was so sad. So he's really saying >> we know it's true >> but it's not our doctrine. >> And so if that's what you're going to believe and want to do then you're going to have to go do it somewhere else. And so several times in my life in order to do this at different levels I've had to lose all my friends and start over again. You know, if if something is happening to you and it's not happening to somebody else, >> they always usually judge you that there's something wrong with you. >> Because if this was right, I'd be having it, too. >> But maybe they could have it and they just are not willing to >> step out and pay the price. So, I'm telling you ladies, follow God. Yeah. >> Obey God and not man >> because in the long run, God's the one that's going to be there for you. >> Amen. >> So, he's saying Moses is dead now. Then you and all these people get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land that I am about to give them to the Israelites. I will give you every place. I love this. I will give you every place where you set your foot as I have promised you. So he you got to understand this. He said I I've already given you all this land. >> Now you have to go and take it. >> Every place where you set your foot. >> Yes. >> That have I already given to you. >> But it wasn't going to be theirs unless they took it. >> That's right. >> I think that's so good. >> So good. See, God could work by himself and do all these miracles all on his own, >> but >> he wants to work in partnership with us. >> It amazes me. I mean, just think about when he raised Lazarus from the dead. >> This big boulder covered the opening to the tomb that Lazarus was in. And all these people are there. What's he going to do? what's he going to do? And he said to them, "Roll away the stone." >> Now I ask you, if he was about to raise a dead man, >> bring him back to life, >> surely he >> could have just went, >> but he told the people to roll away the stone. They had to show some kind of faith. >> That's a good word. in order for something to happen. >> And see, a lot of times we want to just sit back and not obey God and, you know, think because there's a promise there, it has to happen. No, there there are unconditional promises in the word, >> if you believe, you will be saved. >> Yes. >> It's not according to anything you've done. But there's so many things that say if you obey me, >> right? >> If you obey me, >> this that something else. The Bible talks a lot about sowing and reaping >> that you will reap according to what you have sown. I mean, even in things like mercy, if you're merciful, you'll get mercy. >> If you judge people, you're going to be judged. >> If you give to the work of God's kingdom financially, God will take care of you financially. And so, you can't just ignore all the ifs and buts in the Bible. >> Right. >> That's right. >> Because they're there if you. >> Right. >> Exactly. >> But you didn't. But the good thing is is God never gives up on us >> and there's always another chance. >> So then he says, "Every place where your footsteps, I'll give it to you. I am in Joshua 1 verse 4. Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon and from the great river, the Euphrates, all the Hittite country to the Mediterranean Sea in the west. No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. >> So good. >> Now, I want you to listen to this. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. Now, there's a lesson right there. He didn't say you go out and be like Moses and everything will have. He said, as I was with Moses, I will be with you. See, I love that. >> I don't have to try to be somebody else >> because they're only who they are because God is with them. >> So, as long as God is with me, >> Amen. >> everything's going to work out >> fine. >> Hallelujah. >> And so, I did a lot of things that were different than the way other people were doing them because I was by myself and I only had God to listen to. And so even today, like I mean a couple different times Chris Kane has set up little groups of young female ministers and wanted me to come and talk to them. And they had questions. How'd you do this? How'd you do that? How'd you do this? How'd you do that? And I guess I looked stupid because all I could say was I followed the Holy Spirit. >> I mean, that was all I knew. Yeah. >> You know, there was a move of God at that time and a lot of people were being filled with the spirit and I didn't have somebody saying, "You should do this and you should do that." So, I just did what I felt in my heart that God was leading me to do. And if I stepped into something, it was obvious it wasn't right. I stepped out. >> And then tried again. >> And so, you don't have to you don't have to be like somebody else. >> Please don't try to be somebody else. be yourself because everybody else is already taken. >> God is not going to let you He's not going to help you be somebody else. >> He will help you be you >> and be all you can be, but he won't help you be somebody else. >> And then he says the biggie, >> I will never leave you nor forsake you. >> Do you know that all over the Bible it says to fear not? M >> they say it's in the Bible 365 times. I've read that so many places. I guess it's true. I haven't counted them. But and the only reason that I ever see for not being afraid is I will be with you. >> That's right. >> That's right. >> Fear not, for I will be with you. I will never leave you nor forsake you. >> We don't have to know what God's going to do. >> Yeah. We just have to know that he's with us. >> And you know, I thought about that for a little bit this morning and I thought >> we we take so many things for granted >> and we to be honest, we get used to things >> and they don't seem to us to be the kind of miracles that they really are, >> right? >> I mean, I believe that you all have miracles in your life all the time. >> Yes. Several years ago, I said to the Lord, "Why don't you do the things that you used to do when I first started walking with you?" I mean, I could do things like I could I needed to hear from God about something and I'd take this Bible and it would be exactly >> right >> what I needed to hear. But after a while, I would try that. Woe be unto you, you wicked sinner. Oh, I'm going to look for something else. And see, God let me have that as a crutch in the beginning just to prove himself to me. But he won't let us live with crutches to lean on >> forever. We have to faith means that you believe what you don't see. Right. Exactly. >> Faith is a substance of things not seen. >> Yeah. Right. >> That's right. >> Once you see it and you have it, then you don't need faith anymore. >> Exactly. >> That's true. >> I will be with you. >> I will never leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous because you will lead these people to inherit the land that I swore to their ancestors to give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey. All the little things. >> See, those sometimes are the things that we think aren't important. >> But I can tell you, if you don't obey God in the little things, you will not obey him in the big things. I mean, little things like you're out shopping, you're going through a rack of clothes, something falls off the hanger in the floor, and you know you should pick it up. You know that, but you start to walk off and leave it, and the Holy Spirit says, "Get back here." >> It's really fun when God starts making you clean the whole mess up. that you didn't make. >> You know, one time I said, "Why should I clean up everybody else's messes?" He said, "Would you like to have somebody clean up yours someday?" >> Now I have that. Be very careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you. Do not turn from it to the right or the left that you may be successful wherever you go. So there's a promise there of success, but it's dependent upon us obeying. >> Right. >> Yep. >> And I I think we live a little bit too loose these days. >> Yes. >> Exactly. >> Keep this book of the law always on your lips. Meditate on it day and night so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Two of the most important things that you can do is meditate on the word of God and speak the word of God. >> Yes. >> Yes. >> Know it, meditate on it. Go to bed just letting a scripture roll over and over >> in your mind. First person you want to talk to when you open your little peepers says, "God, thank you, Lord, that I'm awake another day." And at my age, it's helped me get to the kitchen where I can find my coffee. >> There's always something. It's like, >> but we're still doing it. >> Amen. >> And does it take more for me to do it now at the age of 82 than it did when I was 40? Absolutely. >> Absolutely. I live to serve God. >> And I I understand the prayer that Paul prayed. I don't care what happens. I don't care how hard it is. My only goal is to finish what I started >> with joy. >> Say with joy. >> With joy. And um so then he says again in verse 9, "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid." Well, what is he telling him? He's actually saying, "Okay, I've got good things for you. >> I for my part, I've already done it." >> Right? >> Now, you have to go out and take it. >> You don't have to be afraid. I'll be with you >> wherever you go. >> Yeah. But I'm letting you know now that fear is going to attack you. >> See, when he when he told him, "Be strong and courageous and do not fear," he was letting him know that fear was going to come. >> Well, what do you do when you know you're supposed to do something and fear is standing in your way? Somebody tell me, you've heard me teach long enough. What do you do? afraid. >> You do it afraid. >> See, that was such a revelation to me when I when I realized I mean, I'd been teaching on fear for a long time, but I knew I was missing something. >> And then I then I saw it. Who says you can't do it afraid? >> That's right. >> Just because you feel afraid doesn't mean that you can't >> keep doing what you're supposed to do. I mean, if I never did anything that I was afraid of doing, >> I would have never gotten anywhere. >> So, we're pretty much guaranteed that fear is going to try to stop us. Now, after a while, some of these things die down because the devil is not going to keep messing with somebody that he knows he can't beat. >> But then, every once in a while, he'll show up kind of unexpected and unannounced. >> Yes. Yes. >> And you know what? I don't allow uninvited guests into my home. >> Much as I love you, if you show up at my door at 8:00 at night, I'm going to say, "Well, maybe if maybe if you have a real problem, I'll try to help you." But I mean, if some if somebody just comes and says, "Just thought I'd stop by." It's like, well, you can just think about going going away. Has any of you ever have you ever gone through something like what I'm talking about? How about you, Holly? Have you gone through something like what I'm talking about? In spades, right? >> Yeah. A lot of big changes. >> What about are is there anybody here who moved from another city to come to work here? Am I telling you the truth about what you go through when you you first come? And see, that's the enemy just trying to run you off. >> He's always trying to get you to turn your back on what God wants you to do. >> Amen. >> Amen. >> It requires courage. >> Yeah. >> To be a committed, obedient Christian. >> These goofy people that say Christianity is only a crutch. Yeah. Well, what are you using for a crutch? >> Drugs, alcohol, you know. >> What? >> Fear and change often go together. Hebrews 11:1. Now, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. When you don't see >> Yeah. >> what you're waiting for, >> you see it by faith. >> That's right. >> You don't know when God's going to do it. You don't know what God's going to do, but you know that God is going to do something. >> That's right. >> And it's not going to be in your timing. >> It's going to be in his timing. Moses asked to see God's glory. And God told him, "No man can see my face and live, >> but you can stand beside me and I'll put my hand over your eyes. >> And when I'm coming, you won't be able to see me. And after I've passed by, I'll take my hands away and you can see my back." >> Yes. >> But not my face. And I believe what that means is you can't always see God when he's coming, >> right? >> But honey, you sure know when he's been there. >> That That's when we say like when the lady showed up with the dish rags, that was God. >> Amen. >> And so all these don't ever take for granted all these so-called little things that God does for you. because they're not little. >> That's right. >> They're big things. >> To wake up every morning, >> know you're saved. >> Yeah. >> To to have the hope of heaven. >> To have hope at all. How many people wake up in the morning and they're hopeless? They have no hope. They're depressed. They're down. All their thoughts are dark and negative. >> And we don't have to live like that. >> Amen. We can make a choice to trust, to believe. Come on, God. I want to see what all you can do in my life. >> That's right. >> I'm going to do it your way. >> That's right. >> And I just want to see what you can do with me. >> Offer yourself to God every day >> as a living sacrifice. >> I give myself to you. Do what you want to. Ask God every morning who you can help that day. That's good. Good. Doing things for other people is one of the most powerful things >> Yeah. >> that you can do. >> How do How do I get the devil back for what he's done in my life? >> How can I get him back? Romans 12:21, you overcome evil with good. >> Kind of like a backwards way of wait a minute, >> right? I've had bad things happen to me and I'm supposed to respond by being good to other people. >> Yes. >> See, the devil won't catch on to that because, well, he's just too dumb to see God's God's ways. But when you meet evil with good, that's what defeats it. When you have somebody who really hurts you and you forgive them and pray for them, >> oh my gosh, >> you are making a dent >> in the devil's plan. >> Well, God told Abraham to leave his home and his family and all that he had and go to the land that I will show you. >> No, God, you show me, then I'll pass. You want me to leave my family, my home, everything? Why did Abraham have to do that? Because his family were idol worshippers. >> Yeah. >> You go to the place that I will show you. So he packed up and took off. God promised him a child from his own body and that took 20 years. >> It takes time. >> But you can enjoy all the >> Yeah. >> Enjoy where you're at on the way to where you're going. >> Yeah. I'll be honest with you and tell you I didn't know how to do that. >> Maybe the last half of it I have, but the first half I didn't really know how to enjoy it. I was just too caught up in the the problems of it and the responsibility of it and the the work and on and on and on. But you can enjoy every single day of your life if you trust God. >> Do you know that? >> Yes. >> And even the changes that you're going through right now, many of you who've joined us tonight, first of all, let me tell you, we really love you and care about you. And we really do appreciate that you've joined us because you could be watching anything and here you are with us and we love you and we want your life to be a good life. Jesus came that you might have and enjoy your life and have it in abundance to the full until it overflows. The thief, the devil, comes only to kill, steal, and destroy. >> Don't let him steal your stuff anymore. >> Yeah. That's good. And the first thing you don't want to let him steal is your joy because the joy of the Lord is your strength. >> So sometimes what we think will bring us happiness still doesn't do it for us. We try everything, look out for number one, but life still feels empty. Well, you know, we typically look at our circumstances and try to change them in order for me to be happy. I know this because I thought this way for years. I was always on my mind. I would constantly think, "What about me? What about me?" I had no idea that the root of my unhappiness was something I could actually change. I was getting in my own way and missing the blessings that God has for me. You see, selfishness steals our joy. But God has such a better way for us to live. I firmly believe that people need to realize that there is great power in an unselfish life. That's why I've written What About Me? Inside I share why it's important to get out of that me mindset and how to change your perspective in a way that will benefit you and others.
