Are You A TRUE Worshiper? | Jonathan Evans He actually gave them this law. Watch >> give them freedom. >> Okay. >> Now, most people think the law was given and ((music playing)) it's bondage. Well, it's only bondage not because the law is bad. It's because we bad. The problem is not with the law. The problem is that it was given to a depraved people and the people couldn't follow the law. But the law is good. That's why the Bible says in Romans 7:12 that the law is good and perfect and holy. 1 Timothy 1:8, it says the law is good if one uses it lawfully. It's the standard of God that his voice rang out on that mountain to give them this holy, righteous standard by which you relate to me. And I'm actually giving it to you to free you. >> The people ((music playing)) were now prepared to hear from God. And then he spoke, >> "I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make any grave images. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord in vain. Remember the Sabbath ((music playing)) day and keep it holy. Honor thy father and thy mother. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear ((music playing)) false witness against thy neighbor. Thou shalt not coveret thy neighbor's house or anything that is thy neighbors. >> ((applause)) >> Can you imagine that being the voice of God that day on that mountain as he gives the ten commandments, the law which is like the climax of the book even though not the end. It is the central theme. Why? because everything before it was preparing for it and everything after it was a result of it. The disciplining of God's people, the reward of the promised land or not. Like in the Old Testament, everything was contingent on their obedience to the law. Not only that, but in the New Testament, the Pharisees would fight over it. This law is a central theme. Why? Because God gave the people the law so that they can have fellowship with him based on his standard of holiness. You do know in order to have fellowship with God, you have to operate at his standard. >> He gave them this law so that they can be in fellowship with him. Again, notice that I said again because if you remember the garden, there was perfect fellowship with God. It was a perfect place with God's perfect presence with perfect people. If you remember those three things, you understand the goal of the entire Bible. >> Perfect harmony and unity between God, his people, and his place. BY THE TIME YOU GET TO Revelation 22, you have a perfect God with perfect people in a perfect place. This is why even in Exodus, I'm going to take you to a place flowing with milk and honey. I am a perfect God. And here now is the introduction of a perfect law so that you can be my people and I can be your God. Right? >> He's establishing his original intent with an upgrade because in eternity the serpent won't be there. >> That is the Bible, THE QUEST TO GOD'S ORIGINAL intent with an upgrade. >> Perfect people, perfect God, perfect place. And he gives them this law so that we can be in fellowship with him because you must be holy as he is holy. Amen. >> This law was first foreshadowed in the garden. Genesis 2:16-1 17. From every tree of the garden, you may freely eat. But from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat. The day you eat from it, you shall surely die. This is a foreshadowing of God having a law or a rule which the people would have to abide by in order to stay in fellowship with him in his place. When that law is broken, obviously you know there was a separation between the people of God and God. >> Now many people ask the question, why in the world would God PUT A TREE IN THE garden that the people can't eat? God from the very beginning, watch would establish a road map to be in fellowship with him while at the same time establish free will and human authenticity. >> Without the law, there is no standard by which the relationship is upheld, consequences are given, or freedom of choice is authenticated. To put it simply, it's not valid if you don't have a choice. >> So God by the law would establish his authority and human authenticity simultaneously. >> So obedience is not valid if you don't have a choice. >> Your forgiveness is not valid valid if you don't have a choice. If I make you forgive somebody, that invalidates and nullifies the forgiveness because it wasn't authentic. >> Your love is not valid if you don't have a choice. Your worship to God is not valid if YOU DON'T HAVE A CHOICE. YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH God is not valid if you don't have a choice. So many people who have a problem with God putting a tree in the garden that they that the people couldn't eat really have a problem with being human. >> They have a problem with God like them wanting authentic relationship, not made and manufactured relationship. >> To have a problem with vows is to have a problem with the marriage. To have a problem with the rules of the sport is to have a problem with the sport itself. To have a problem with the rules to my house means you need to get out. >> Isn't it that way with you? >> Don't you have standards by which people need to relate to you? And if they can't relate based on the standards, then we don't need to be in relationship. >> THEN WHY WOULDN'T GOD HAVE standards as holy he as he is >> for us to BE IN RELATION? YOU CAN'T JUST COME any old kind of way. >> You say, "Well, Jonathan, the law, that idea of us relating to God based on this obedience, that is Old Testament." Uh 1 John 1 3-6 he says what we have heard and seen we proclaim to you so that YOU CAN HAVE FELLOWSHIP WITH US AND OUR FELLOWSHIP is with the father and the son Jesus Christ. God is watch light and there is no darkness in him. Here it is. So if you say you have fellowship with God yet you walk in darkness, you lie and you do not practice the truth. >> In other words, you can't live any old kind of way and still claim you have intimate fellowship with God. ((applause)) So God then in Exodus 20 at the mount of Cyani, he gives the people this law because he has a holy standard. And this law tells them how to function before him so that he can re-establish what was lost in the garden when disobedience came in in Genesis 3. He wants to be their God and they be his people. But they must be a holy nation, a royal priesthood, a people of God's own possession. They have to learn how to relate to him based on this standard. >> Now, I need you to Did y'all get that? >> I need you to collapse and hold that thought right here. >> In Exodus 3, God found Moses on Mount Horeb. Exodus 3:1, he he calls it the mountain of God. In Exodus 3:12, he tells Moses, "I need you to go. Let the people go. And a sign that I am with you is that I'm GOING TO BRING YOU BACK TO THIS mountain to worship me." >> The sign that I am with you, Moses, is I'm going to bring you back to this very place I found you later on, >> and I'm going to bring you back for you to worship me. Y'all get that? Yes. >> Let me just say real quick. I love how God is in the business of bringing you back to the place he found you when you were a wonderer >> so that you can worship him. >> GOD IS A GOD OF SPIRITUAL DEJA VU. HE WILL BRING YOU BACK TO THE PLACE HE FOUND YOU. SO YOU YOU CAN THINK BACK ON HIS GOODNESS AND SAY, "LORD, I worship you." ((cheering)) >> Like I used to be in the prison as A FELON, BUT NOW I'M BACK IN THE prison sharing my faith. >> It's spiritual deja vu WHEN YOU FOUND ME AS a wonderer and now I came back as a worshshiper. Like I was in the pregnancy CARE CENTER TRYING TO DECIDE WHETHER I should have this child or not. and I did. And now they're 10 years old and the pregnancy care center called me AND SAID, "DO YOU want to volunteer? Do you want to work here?" Then you walk back in there with your 10-year-old and you the the place looks the same. You're you're in the SAME PLACE, BUT YOU'RE NOT THE same person. AND NOW YOU'RE COUNSELING PEOPLE THE SAME WAY YOU GOT COUNSELEDLED BECAUSE GOD WILL BRING THINGS BACK around so that 10 years later, you can worship him. You used to be the atrisisk student at your school. Now you mentoring atrisisk students at THE SCHOOL BECAUSE GOD WILL BRING THAT THING. YOU USED TO BE HOMELESS. Now you're feeding THE GOD WILL BRING THINGS BACK around so THAT WHEN YOU GET BACK TO the mountain HE FOUND YOU. YOU START WORSHIPING HIM. ((applause)) Moses if he could TESTIFY BY THE TIME HE GOT TO THE MOUNTAIN IN EXODUS 19 and 20 from Exodus 3 he COULD SAY MAN GOD FOUND me in fear. I couldn't even talk. Then he let me know he's going to put power IN THE STAFF OF GOD. THEN I WENT THROUGH 10 PLAGUES WHERE GOD SHOWED UP. THEN GOD SPLIT THE RED SEA, MADE THE BITTER water sweet, gave me restoration in Elum. THEN BREAD FELL FROM HEAVEN. That mana fell from heaven and fed me and ALL THE PEOPLE. THEN GOD BEAT UP AMALCCH WITH THE STAFF OF GOD. LIKE ALL OF THIS STUFF HAPPENED BY THE TIME I GOT BACK. SO NOW THAT I'M BACK, I'M GOING TO WORSHIP HIM. >> ((applause)) >> And many of you HAVE BEEN BROUGHT BACK AROUND to that mountain. And when YOU COME BACK, IT SMELLS THE SAME. It looks the same, but you know you're not the same. >> And you're able to worship him. Thank you, LORD, FOR BRINGING ME back to the mountain. And what he said was, Moses, I'm going to bring you back >> to this place. Now, Mount Horeb is what it's called in Exodus 3. Mount Cyani is what it's called in Exodus 19 and 20, but those are interchangeable terms. So when you read through Exodus and you see Mount Horeb and Mount Cyani, it's the same location. God brought him back to this same location so that he can worship him. >> Let me say that one more time. God brought him back to this location for one primary reason. So that you and the people will worship me. >> Remember what I told you to keep over here. >> God gave them the law so that they would understand the the the standard by which they have fellowship with God. >> But God said, "I brought you back so that you can worship me. That's it. >> That means the law is not just for fellowship with God >> because the reason one more time >> that I BROUGHT YOU TO BACK TO THIS mountain is for you to worship me. >> WHEN HE GOT TO THE MOUNTAIN, >> DO YOU KNOW what the tool was that God gave the people to worship him? Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any grave and image. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. Remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy. Honor your father and your mother. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house or anything that IS THY NEIGHBORS. WAIT A MINUTE, GOD. I THOUGHT YOU BROUGHT ME BACK TO worship you. >> I did. And the only way you can truly worship me is by being obedient. ((applause)) In other words, GOD WANTS FELLOWSHIP with us. BUT WHEN GOD GIVES YOU SPIRITUAL DEJA vu and HE BRINGS YOU BACK TO THE MOUNTAIN from which you were wandering on, he said, "Now that I've proven myself to save you and walk with you and change you AND AND AND PROVIDE FOR YOU. NOW THAT I PRO, CAN I GET SOME OBEDIENCE BACK? >> HE DID NOT say lift your hands, shed a tear, flip over the pews. HE DID NOT SAY RUN AROUND. HE DID NOT SAY JUST HAVE A CHURCH SERVICE. >> SO IF YOUR HANDS ARE UP but your life is down, YOU'RE NOT A TRUE WORSHIPPER. ((applause)) ((cheering)) Without obedience, ONE CANNOT TRULY WORSHIP GOD. >> Because he's giving them this standard by which to be a true worshipper. >> It says in John 4:23, when Jesus is at the at the well with the woman, he says, "My true worshippers are going to worship in spirit and in truth." >> We've gotten really good at the in in spirit. That is an internal true acknowledgment of God's sovereignty. >> Thank you, Lord, for what you have done. I WORSHIP YOU AND I THINK on these things. >> That is a half worshipper. >> Because a lot of us do this and we've gotten good at this. >> Maybe we've seen it since we were a child, so we know how to reenact it. >> Or maybe we're truly coming from the spirit and saying, "Thank you, Lord. I'M SO GRATEFUL FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE THAT I CANNOT HAVE STAGNANT WORSHIP. Stagnant worship is entitled worship like he's supposed to do this stuff. >> No, I recognize that EVEN THOUGH YOU DON'T HAVE TO, YOU DID. And I'm going to worship you and acknowledge that in spirit, but I'm not going to acknowledge it in spirit and then live my life ignoring the truth. True worshippers worship in spirit and in truth. >> WE CANNOT saints live in the dark and think that we're worshiping God. >> He says in 1st Samuel 15:22, you know it well. Obedience is better than a sacrifice. >> In other words, those rituals that y'all do over and over again, the priests slaughtering the animals and all, that's important. But obedience levels up on that. >> In other words, in our context, he's saying, "I'm not just looking for a church service. I'm looking for life service." >> This is in fact true worship to God where you can worship him in spirit and in truth. He gives them this beautiful law. >> Yeah. And he brought him back for the purposes of worshiping. And he says, "Now let me tell you how I want to be worshiped. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God to present your whole self as a living sacrifice. >> This is your acceptable service of worship. >> I want all of you >> and I want your obedience, not just your religiousness. >> ((applause)) >> You've heard it talked about. Greg Holmes did such an awesome job last week discussing the law. >> And when you hear the law preached, you hear the law typically preached in terms of its curse and inability to save. And that is true. But what you don't often hear is the law was given by God for as a mechanism for God's people to worship him, which means he wants obedience and deserves it. >> Now you're saying, Jonathan, you're you're making the law sound good. We we beyond the law. >> This is about grace. True. In the Old Testament, they were law first. In the New Testament, we grace first. >> Well, in the Old Testament, what people don't realize is it was still grace first. Was not the Passover prior to the Ten Commandments? ((applause)) Was it not the shedding of blood that freed the people out of bondage before there was an expectation of holiness and obedience? >> It is the same road map that God uses in the New Testament. He says, "I'm going to save you and then there should be a new standard of living." Which is why in Exodus 22, he says that I am the Lord your God as a reminder who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. By the fact that there was blood shed, you have now been set free. Therefore, never again return to the YOKE OF SLAVERY. YOU HAVE TO NOW have a new standard of living now that you're no longer living in Egypt. So even then THEY HAD GRACE BEFORE they had law. >> God was good to give them that grace >> and say now here is [snorts] the standard of living now that you're saved. >> Now that should sound more familiar to us. Many of us know what a standard of living is cuz some of us got high standards of living. You figured you've worked so hard for so long, you don't do that anymore. Like heard a person say the other day, I ate at Chili's in college. I said, "So you don't do the molten lava? You don't do the molten lava?" Our real chili people know what a molten lava is. The problem is our standard of living has become higher for our lifestyle than our salvation. >> We're focused on standard of living for our lifestyle and we're not focused on standard of living based on our salvation. Now that you have received grace, you ought to have a new standard of living, >> that you're not still like the people trying TO GO BACK TO EGYPT all the time. >> We've been saved and we still cussing like sailors. >> We've been saved and we're still fornicating. We've been saved and we're still just as drunk as the rest of them. >> We've been saved and we're still lying, div living double lives, treating people like garbage. >> THAT IS YOUR EGYPT LIFE. >> YOU'VE BEEN SAVED FROM IT. SHOULD WE NOT HAVE ANOTHER STANDARD OF LIVING? ((applause)) And so he gives them this law, this beautiful law. And I say that because we've heard so many sermons about the law, we look, we look at it sideways. No, the law is the perfect standard of God. >> God doesn't give bad things. He'll allow you to go through hard seasons or trials and tribulations, but he's not giving them something to mess them up. He's giving them something that represents his character. >> He's letting us all know what the standard is to be in relationship with me. You cannot come to me any old kind of way. >> And in this law, watch, I'm about to say something that's going to mess you up. He actually gave them this law. Watch >> give them freedom. >> Okay. >> Now, most people think the law was given and it's bondage. Well, it's only bondage not because the law is bad. It's because we bad. The the problem is not with the law. ((applause)) The problem is that it was given to a depraved people. And the PEOPLE COULDN'T FOLLOW THE LAW, BUT the law is good. That's why the Bible says in Romans 7:12 that the law is good and perfect and holy. 1 Timothy 1:8, it says, "The law is good if one uses it lawfully." IT'S THE STANDARD OF God that his voice rang out on that mountain to give them this holy, righteous standard by which you relate to me. >> And I'm actually giving it to you to free you. >> Now, you're not going to see it that way as an American. But if you were an enslaved Hebrew, >> so I've got to chart this for you >> so that you can see that God actually gave it to the people who were free so that they would live at a free standard and not a slave standard. The first four laws are about your relationship with God. YOU CANNOT WORSHIP God and also be spiritually confused. So he SAYS, "THOU SHALT HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME." YOU HAVE TO understand that the Hebrew people came and were freed out of a polytheistic culture which means Egypt had multiple gods. >> Multiple gods intrinsically means multiple truths. >> That's why in our culture you hear people say, "Well, let me tell you my truth because they erected another god over it." >> Yes. Spiritual confusion is what these Hebrews were saved out of. They were saved out of this polytheistic culture. And out of this, you cannot be a true worshshiper of God. Having multiple truths in your mind when there is one standard and one truth. Let me tell you that many of us are still living in the spiritual confusion of yesterday. >> That's why you still go to your horoscope. That's why you're still praying over your crystals trying to get healing. >> This is why you're still going to your palm reader just in case that God can't do it. Let me go to another god. >> You're going to your psychic friends thinking it's a godly gift when they're not. They're a diver >> because the enemy gives gifts, too. Yeah. >> And we're coming to church, but we're still spiritually CONFUSED AS IF WE'RE LIVING in a polytheistic culture. Actually, we are. >> People serve multiple things >> that are not the true God. And he's trying to set them free from that old way of thinking and dependency on all of these gods that are not me. There is one truth. And truth is an objective standard by which all reality is measured. which means there must only be one God who presides over that standard. ((applause)) He says, "Thou shalt not make any graven images." How is that freeing to the people? What do you think they were doing in slavery in a polytheistic CULTURE? THEY HAD TO BUILD THE GODS. They had to build THE STRUCTURES. THEY WORKED EVERY DAY carving out these images. And he's saying, "You don't have to do that anymore. All of that work you've been doing TO CARVE OUT YOUR BANK ACCOUNT. >> All of that work you've BEEN DOING TO CARVE OUT YOUR CAREER AND carve out your followers. >> You're erecting all of these gods AND SPENDING ALL OF YOUR LIFE TRYING TO CARVE OUT ALL OF THESE THINGS. And you don't have to carve that out. You have one God now. ((applause)) >> That work that is vanity, you don't have to do that anymore. You have one God. No more graven images. That builds into spiritual confusion. Which is why we need to stop putting up pictures of Jesus that are our color. ((applause)) That's called ethnosentrism. When you assume that Jesus looked like you, >> it's built INTO A LOT OF confusion in our culture. That's why PEOPLE THINK JESUS IS THE white man's religion. No, it's not. >> It's all of ours. It belongs to all of us. STOP PUTTING UP GRAVEN IMAGES. IT'S CONFUSING TO THE CULTURE. ((applause)) >> WELL, my Jesus got dreadlocks. Well, you don't know that. You just want him to look like you cuz you think you you it. ((applause)) >> Thou shalt not take the NAME OF THE LORD God in vain. Take me seriously, not casually. That's where your blessing comes from. Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy. You have Hebrew, remember slaves, you have never gotten a day of rest in your life. They didn't know what rest was. They worked and worked and worked and worked and worked. That's how they spent their lives in Egypt. Now they're serving a God who says, "No, no, no. I also want you to rest." Sounds like our culture. Hustle, hustle, hustle. Grind, grind, grind. Get your followers up. Post, post, post, post, post. Do do or you're not gonna be nothing. And then the next thing you know, you're in the grave. >> God says, "No, I'm not like that. Come to me all ye who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest." ((applause)) Honor thy father and thy mother. Ephesians 6:1. If you honor your father and your mother, you will live long on the earth. I'm trying to give you life. Stop tripping. >> Thou shalt not kill. It's Egypt. There's killing all the time at will if they want to. No one cares and no one's held responsible. That's why Moses thought he could do it because he was in Pharaoh's house. >> Says, "You don't have to live in this dog eat dog world anymore." >> That's right. That's right. Um, some y'all looking like, "Well, we don't be killing." Well, Matthew 5 says, "If you even hate your brother in your heart, ((applause)) I'm sorry. I just, you know, some of us be like, I mean, if they weren't here, it wouldn't bother me." Yeah. Okay, I'll leave that there. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Be faithful. Stop cheating. You tear down your own legacy. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. Stop lying to cover yourself. I will cover you. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house or anything that is thy neighbors. Let me take the shackles of your social media comparison life away. Where you're comparing yourself to what I've given everybody else. where you're telling me you're totally not content with what I've done for you and what I'm going to do for you. I wish I had their stuff. I wish I had their looks. I wish I had their hair. I wish they had their clothes, their job. Some pastors wish they had other pastors ministries >> saying, "No, I've given you this law to free you actually from that old way of thinking in American culture. ((applause)) an Egyptian culture. And so he gives them this actually beautiful law that represents freedom in Christ. The Bible says 2 Corinthians 3:17, "Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty >> for freedom." Yeah. And there is not that fellowship and relationship without obedience. Now, while obedience does not save you, it is the sanctification that sustains you. Now, you're like, Jonathan, you're still talking about the law so good. Well, I want you to understand that if you just do two things in the New Testament, God makes it easy for you. >> Jesus says, if you just love God, and love others. >> It fulfills the whole law. >> You are a true worshipper. Not if you love God, but you treat others like garbage. >> Not if you're good relationally, but you have no obedience to God. >> You're a true worshshiper. If you love the Lord your God with ALL OF YOUR HEART, WITH ALL OF YOUR SOUL, with all of your strength, and love your neighbor as yourself, that fulfills the entire law. God and others >> that >> brings you in fellowship and harmony with God. Yeah. >> Now, the reason why the New Testament talks about the law in a more um negative sense, a curse, by no means will any flesh be justified by the law, >> is because it is true that while the law is beautiful and perfect, it cannot fix that which it reflects. >> So, the law is a curse because we can't obey it, not because it's bad. That's why Jesus himself would say, "I did not come to abolish the law." >> It's beast mode. I'm not going to take it out. What I'm going to do is come fulfill the law. >> So, what if God's word spoke on the mountain became flesh to finish what he said? What if the mirror that reflects to you the bad that you can't fix? What if the mirror becomes flesh so it can fix what it reflects? >> What if the person of Jesus Christ is the one who makes man perfect? >> Okay, it's not a what if. Jesus Christ, second member of the Trinity, the son of God, took on flesh and his 33 year, this law is so good given by God on Mount Si. His 33 years were to fulfill every letter. >> The ten commandments followed by 613 statutes and ordinances that no man could ever do, Jesus Christ accomplished. That's why the Bible says he is the propitiation of our sins or the one who satisfied the law because the law is that good. It must be satisfied. The Bible says if your righteousness does not exceed the scribes and the Pharisees, you will not enter the kingdom of God. You must be holy as God is holy. Which means you have to be perfect in connection to that law in ORDER FOR GOD TO ACCEPT YOU. So it became a curse to us not because it's bad but because we couldn't do it. Enter the mirror. >> The word itself, the law itself, Jesus Christ comes into the world. Watch. You're going to love this. And he brings you a new covenant. >> In that new covenant, now he's going to do something with the heart. Yeah, >> first it was external. >> Here is the mirror, >> but the mirror couldn't fix. Now, let's go to the heart. >> And in Jeremiah 31, this new covenant, watch what he does. He gives everyone who believes in him a law tattoo. He says, "I'm going to write the law on your heart. The law is so good, it must be accomplished. You couldn't. So, I'm going to accomplish it. And when you believe in me, >> this is what Jesus does. >> Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any grave and image. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. Remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy. Honor thy father and thy mother. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor. Thou shall not coveret thy neighbor's house or anything that is thy neighbors. ((applause)) >> ((applause)) >> This is your salvation when HE TAKES THAT BLACK HEART that's dead and he inscribes the perfect law on you so that even though you couldn't accomplish, he accomplished it and THEN GAVE YOU A heart tattoo SO THAT YOUR HEART NOW CAN START BEATING THE BLOOD OF JESUS Christ and that you CAN GO FROM DEAD to alive. God made him who knew no sin to become sin for you so that you might be the righteousness of God THROUGH HIM. AND NOW IT'S TIME FOR US TO WORK OUT OUR salvation and fear and trembling. What does that mean? IT MEANS I NEED TO WORK OUT WHAT HAS ALREADY been worked in. God has already written the law on our hearts. I have been crucified with Christ. It's no longer I that live, BUT CHRIST that lives in me. The life that I now live, I live BY FAITH IN THE ONE WHO gave himself up for me. Some of us may be in this room and your heart is black. YOU NEED A HEART TATTOO. It's called the law of God through Jesus Christ who will save you from all of your unrighteousness. Not because of who you are, only because of who he is. ((applause)) This is the law ((applause)) from the Old Testament to the New Testament. >> God himself does not give up on the law. He just says, "I'm going to give it to them by grace cuz they can't achieve it by works." So for those of you who may still have the first heart that came on the screen that was dark, >> not pumping because you're still trying to do it yourself. You ask someone, "Are you going to heaven one day?" And they say, "I'm trying." The law that's good now has become a curse to you. You cannot try. The Bible says, "All your righteousness is like filthy rags in front of a holy God." >> And so I'm going to offer you a heart tattoo today. >> I'm going to ask everybody to stand to their feet. And if you don't know that, you know that you've ever accepted Jesus Christ into your life for the forgiveness of your sins. And while those sins are being forgiven, it's traded with the perfect righteousness of God. So that when God sees you, he sees, oh, this heart is alive.
