there was a young preacher that was preaching at a conference and it's a very churchy conference you know we just a room for the church kids amen um preaching at a conference and he talked about the Good Shepherd he quotes the 23rd psalm and he's churching it like the Lord is my shepherd I shall not want he make me lie down like he's Church the room becomes unglued because we love church and eventually he finishes and a older gentleman comes up hushes the crowd brings the room to a silence and he just begins to quote the psalm he says the Lord is my shepherd and I I shall not want and he makes me lie down in Green Pastures he leads me beside Still Waters and the room begins to just come to a holy hush and a weeping and a reverence because you can tell that God had stepped in the room I mean people began to encounter God Miracles broke out after the session was over with the young man didn't want to speak to anyone but he chased down the the older preacher he's like what did you do how did you make the room shift like that I have to know we quoted the same song we didn't get the same response and the older gentleman looks at him he says you know the psalm very well and that such a good thing but I know the shepherd and that makes the difference and there was a time when I heard this that I I need this Shepherd more than ever I was in one of the lowest places of my life and that story like arrested me we just sung a song called alter and um basically the premise is that you know it's the story of the Cross it's the story of the Resurrection it's the story of the blood like no longer is man and God separated he who knew no sin became sin and so we could become the righteousness of God now we have communion with Jesus and we don't have to live apart which is such a good ((music playing)) thing because for me I grew up basically having spiritual Stockholm syndrome I thought that God was angry thought he was distant thought he was dictating thought he was bloodthirsty thought that Jesus constantly had to calm him down and that they were playing good cop bad cop and then my Apostle would say things like that's not true cuz if you think God is angry and on a seat of judgment ready to Smite you with a lightning bolt but then Jesus who's Lov and kind and approachable would say when you see me you see the father those two don't contrast they don't balance out so then God began to unravel my poor thinking I tell my my people all the time we focus on the death of Jesus and what it did for the world a lot of times we Overlook what his life did for us and that was fix our vantage point about the father so then I was like God I've never thought to look at you as the shepherd and hoow I need you to be my shepherd now I need you to lead me cuz I'm in a dark space I'm try I'm trying to behave y'all in the 23rd psalm there's a there's a specific verse that says that you anoint my head with oil and when I first started reading as a kid I thought that's super poetic I like that it's kind of nice kind of like the way that sounds then I started reading and studying and searching and there's the reference point is that sheep are attacked by insects all the time and the Flies and the nose flies try to get into their brains and cause a lot of pain and discomfort because they try to hedge themselves into the Flesh in their brain and in their nostril canal and all the things and the Sheep will bang their heads against rocks and trees and rub their nose in the dirt and sometimes they even die in the process because they're trying to find Freedom from the internal struggle and the shepherd anointing their head with oil the oil does three things one it removes the insects and The larva from the inside it provides a protective layer around the nostrils to prevent it from happening again and then it heals the bruises that were left behind from them trying to get it out themselves the self-inflicted wounds and I was a mess and I God started to dig a Little Deeper he said look around at your peers look around at your friends your relatives the world there's a lot of people banging their heads against rocks a lot of people are dealing with a lot of internal struggles and traumas that they don't talk about silent tears being cried at night they can't even tell their parents down the hallway they can't tell their friends at school they're dealing with silent struggles and I begin to weep and I'm like God please anoint our heads with oil ano our heads with oil we need the oil bring peace to their minds bring peace to
