My Advice to the Next Generation. A Conversation with Francis Chan | Dunamis Hangout ((music playing)) episode. Daniel Crazy Well, Francis transitioning to English now. It is I actually understood almost everything. Wow. Yeah. Well, I speak Spanish. Oh, I was listening. I'm like, I think I know what he's saying. The most I've understood the whole time in Brazil. Wasn't an interpretation of tongues thing there. I'm like, now I know everything he's saying. Come on. Well, Francis, it's such an honor for us to have you here with us in Brazil again. How how many time do you know how many times you've been to Brazil? Probably only like five or six times. Five or six times. Just five or six times, I think. So, wow. Wow. Well, let's let's make sure there's more in the future cuz we we love you here with us. Good. And I'm addicted to those little cheese balls. Oh, yeah. casual, right? They don't have those in America. No, it the texture is just so satisfying. Anything like it in the world. Yeah. Crazy. It's the best. Well, Francis, let's get right to it. Um, so you've been to Brazil now five or six times, and last night at Zion Church with us, you were sharing about how the different times you've come to Brazil, Brazilian worship has just so impacted you and marked you. Could you share a little bit with us about what it is about Brazilian worship that you find so impactful that stirs you so much? Okay. I understand that there is a culture. So whether it's about football or anything, there's passion and there's a following. But with worship, it really seems like more than just people following this is the way we express ourselves. So it's beautiful the way you express yourselves. I think that's more natural for me. I don't know why, but for some reason I'm very expressive and and but when you're in a room where everyone is very subdued, it's hard to because I don't want to draw attention to myself. Yeah. So I don't want to be the one jump, but I also want to in my heart. And so there's something about that that in the culture it's very free. But beyond that, I guess last night especially because there was a church gathering and I'm looking at everyone's face. There is a joy. There is a like there's this look in their eyes and expression on their face that shows me they don't want this to end. like they're really enjoying it. Yeah. You know, it's it's like yesterday they took me to lunch and they they gave me, you know, this little I forget the place, but this thinly taste, you know, the steak and they had the warm cheese breads coming out and I'm just like, I want to stay hungry. I want to just keep eating. It's so good. Like, you don't want that meal to end. That's the look on their faces during worship. Like, this is the greatest. And it it was like a glimpse of heaven, that worship, that enjoyment. That's that's what I don't see a lot. Um is the enjoyment of God. Even though we know that, you know, Westminster confession, like this is the chief aim of man to glorify God and to enjoy him. Yeah. Enjoy him forever. So that enjoyment I think stands out. And when you see a crowd of people where you're going, everyone loves this. Yeah. They are in and it was hot and it was air conditioner wasn't working. We're crammed, you know, overnight. Not an ideal situation in this little room. No one cared. Yeah. Yeah. No one cared. And I think that's what we noticed at the send. Um, when it was in Kansas City, it was the hottest day of the year. For some reason, the ground on the stadium was white and so the sun was reflecting. Wow. And so most a lot of people left. People were coming in, going out, trying to find shade, trying to find water. But there were a few hundred Brazilians right in front of the stage, you know, just going and I'm like, "This is not humanly possible." Yeah. Like physically, how are you doing it? They just kept worshiping and it was it was very humbling. Wow. Well, for me and for a lot of us going, they're still going. Yeah. They're drenched with sweat, waving their Brazilian flags in to the Lord. Yes. and we're going, "How is this possible?" Um, but I I that's why I praise God for the church in Brazil because I you are leading the way in the enjoyment of the worship of God. Now, I hope, sorry for talking too much, but please, that's the aim of the boat guest. Go on. I hope that when the service is over and the event is over and you're alone in your room, you still worship God like that. Yeah. Wow. Come on. You can sit in silence in the presence of God and you go, "God, I don't want this to ever end. I have to go to work in half an hour, but I don't want this to end." Yes. I've got to go to class or I've got to go to sleep at some point, but I don't want this to end. This time alone with you. Yeah. Because there comes a time when your friends will walk away and leaders will disappoint you. And we used to sing this song when I was a little kid where we'd say, "Though none go with me, still I will follow." Yeah. Mhm. Because I have decided to follow Jesus. Yes. And though none go with me, I'm still going to keep following. And that that doesn't happen just in a stadium event or a church event, there has to there's something special that can only happen when the body of Christ is together. But I also believe there's something special that happens when you are alone with God. And if you don't have that, you're not going to make it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's so powerful. Um cuz that's a like a kingdom snapshot uh in the culture. It's like we we have this this passion and we have seen this passion in the sand as well and not just a a stadium gathering but people wanting to go and we are believing this for uh 2026 again. people wanting to go, not just having a good time for 12 hours in the stadium, but wanting to go and you have uh launching your book in 2021 onto unit and that's something so powerful around the send this unit thing and I just want you to share a little bit what the Lord uh is spoken with you or what you are um waiting for the send um for 2026 cuz I know you're here in Brazil that's the reason why but I want you just to share a little bit about it. Yeah, you know, this passage has been on my mind so much. I shared about it last night. I shared it again this morning. I've only noticed this passage uh just over a month ago, even though I've read it. You know how you read passages in the Bible and and it's like, yeah, oh, I never Oh, it's here. Yeah. Why did I never notice this? But it's the promise in Deuteronomy 32 39. He says, "I will give them one heart and one way that they may fear me forever for their own good and the good of their children after them." God says, "I and later on, two verses later, I will put the fear of me in their hearts that they may not turn away from me." Come on. So there is some blessing that we get when God says there's going to come a day when I will make you fear me from your heart. Amen. And you will never walk away from me because it's in you. I'll put the fear in you. It will live in you. Uhhuh. And I don't know if it's just because I've been experiencing this in the last month and especially even this morning like the fear of God upon me where I go, "Thank you, Lord. I'm right now just terrified of a holy God." And that is so good. Uhhuh. because it's making me think through my life, everything I say to where I don't fear what anyone thinks of me right now. I'll call out any sin. I don't care if I'm canceled. I don't care if anyone goes with me because I have this deep fear of you right now. Thank you, God. Don't let that go away. Otherwise, I'll drift into my sin. I'll drift into everything else. I'll I'll make it a couple of years off of the energy, you know, of the people around me or because it feels like revival. But revival is like, no, this is revival when he puts the fear in your heart to where you can't turn away from him. Cuz we've seen so many evangelistic crusades. People cry, they scream, they come, they fall on their knees, and then a few weeks later, few months later, few years later, they're denying the very God. Yeah. Who they supposedly encountered. Yeah. Mhm. And I say that because when it comes to unity, when I have a fear of almighty God and I think, wait, he made you. you're his son. It It's kind of like in Deuteronomy uh I forget where it is, maybe around 11 or 13 when Miriam and Aaron are talking about Moses and God says, "How dare you talk about Moses? I talk to him face to face. I'm his friend. I talk to him like a friend." And you're going to gossip. You're going to say, "Oh, that woman he married." Uh-huh. Like, have you no fear of me? And he strikes her with leprosy. Like, I have to look at you and go, you might be a friend of God. everything I know. I don't know you well, but I just go, if the spirit of God lives in you and you are a son of God, then I don't want to dare offend you. Yeah. I mean, even even physically, you look a lot bigger than me. Okay. And let's say I don't know if you have a son. Do you have I do have a son. You do have a son. Okay. I'm not going to just in your presence say talk trash about your son. Yeah, I'd go 100%. He's bigger than me, you know. It'd be a good fight, but he's bigger than me. I mean, we're talking about almighty God. Yeah. And this is his son. And it it is shocking when I go on the internet and I talk and I see internet personalities talk about other pastors that maybe what you're saying is true. Yeah. Maybe they are often some. But the way you are talking shows me you have no fear of God. you you you're not even that might be a son of God that you're talking about. Yeah. And you're not talking like he's really a son of God or there's even that possibility. Where's the fear? Yeah. Otherwise, we're going to start hammering each other. What happening? What happens in Brazil? You'll just follow the US pattern where people get on arrogantly and go, "Ah, this guy, he's a heretic. This guy, he's an idiot. Let's just all walk away from him." Blah blah blah blah blah. They're like, That doesn't sound like you have any fear. Yeah. As you talk about him rather than That's so powerful. Yeah. I look at you and pastors start looking at each other. Yeah. With a fear of God and internet personalities for a fear of God to follow for you guys as you do more of this conversations that you are careful with your words. Yeah. And going does this bring honor to him? Am I saying this out of pride or selfish ambition, you know, or do I have a fear of God because we want his name lifted up in these conversations? That's what we want for the send. I want to see something happened in Brazil that did not happen in the US. We got sidetracked by becoming celebrities, being treated well, the applause. We we fought for more internet followers or or FaceTime or uh Instagram or we we started valuing oh how many people like those types of things and I'm praying the fear of God falls upon the believers in this country and I hope that the send can be a part of that to where you know what we don't dare try to make a name for ourselves. Yeah. Yeah. We want to lift up one name and I want to be forgotten. I want his name lifted up. Hallowed be your name. Yes. Yeah. And Francis um if I can dare to make this question um you you make a comparison here. What happened in America for uh what is happening here in Brazil. If you can give uh one advice for this new generation cuz that's the moto is for a new generation. Yeah, we understand that the happened in 2020 and people that are in the stadium, they right now have families and they already have uh go out of like universities and schools and right now people that are going there, they're even like 11 or 12 in the in the same time. So, it's a new generation. It's a new season for the body here in Brazil. And what would be your advice for what we are living, aiming, praying, fasting, uh make it become this revival that we are waiting and this wave of evangelism and missions. Wow. I guess my one word if I could only speak one thing. I would beg you all to learn to be quiet in the presence of God because this is your only hope. The Bible says in um I think it's first Peter 4:7, "The end of all things is at hand." Therefore, be self-controlled and sober minded for the sake of your prayers. Above all, keep loving one another earnestly since love covers a multitude of sins. So he says, "The end of all things is at hand." I personally believe the end of all things is really at hand 2,000 years after Peter wrote this. I'm going certainly closer now than it was then. Yes. Yeah. Probably 2,000 years closer based upon my math. So, it's like, wow, it is really close. And you know, Peter's the one that says he's not slow to keep his promises. It's going to happen. I I could spend hours on on why I think it's soon, but because the end is coming, he says, "Be self-controlled and soberminded for the sake of your prayers." Okay. The goal is prayer. The goal is that you can get alone in quiet and actually truly communicate to God. That's the goal. A lot of times we think prayer is a means to an end. So my goal is I want to get married so I'll pray for a husband or pray for a wife. I want to have children, so I'll pray to get a child. No, he says you, the end of all things is at hand. So, be self-controlled and soberminded so you can pray. That's the goal. That is so important that you are able. And that takes self-control. That means your phone and and all these things and these things you scroll through, it is messing up your mind to where when you try to pray, you can't cuz your mind is spinning. Wow. And so at the end, he goes, "The most important thing is this. You can get alone with him. Your prayers, are you actually talking to him? Do you actually have relationship?" Because that requires self-control. self-control is, gosh, my mind since I was born is, you know, is is trained to go to my phone and and look and and I I'm constantly needing to be stimulated. And the Bible says, "Show some self-control. Put that thing down. Turn it off. Show control and be soberminded." That means clearminded. That's not just from alcohol. We all understand alcohol, you don't think clearly. And I'm saying all of the social videos, everything else, you can't pray clearly. Yeah. You are not soberminded. You are not self-controlled. And the end is coming close. And what he says is the goal is that you would be able to pray at that time that you have a genuine relationship with him. That's why some of these big events, you're stimulated and you're surrounded by all this noise and so you're able to connect. But what about when you're alone? Yeah. And you're actually trying to pray. Yeah. Can you still pray? Are you soberminded, self-control for the sake of your prayers? And then he says, "Above all, keep loving one another earnestly." Yeah. Yeah. So, it's not a fake, hey, look at your neighbor and say, "I love you." You know, like it's Yes. He says, "Keep loving them earnestly, deeply." Yeah. And so that means me getting on my knees and saying, "I'm going to pray for you. I'm going to pray for you tomorrow." you know, because I love you. It's like having a deep relationship. And so, we just lift up too many other things of, "Oh, that guy drew a crowd. Oh, that person has this many followers. Oh, that person's famous. He's rich. He's beautiful." And he's like, in the end, all you're going to care about is your ability to pray because you're sober minded, self-controlled, and you're listening to people. It's like it's it I'm just reminded as you're talking Francis even about what Jesus said in in uh Matthew in the sermon on the mount where he talks about many coming to him in the last days and pointing to all the things they did. Yeah. And he says, "Depart from me. I I never knew you." And um as you as you're talking about prayer and earnestly praying, Francis, your words just carry such weight um and are so I think timely for what we're living right now as this young generation in Brazil. And speaking about prayer, I was wondering if you'd be willing to pray for us, for this new generation coming through in Brazil, for this new generation that this new wave of the send is for. If you would just be able to pray for us, um, and pray for our generation, for that fear of the Lord, to carry what God has given us, the weight of what he's pouring out on Brazil right now, that we as a generation would carry that in the fear of the Lord and bear fruit that remains. We would love to keep the conversation, but we are afraid that you're going to lost your flight. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Let's pray. Oh father, would you please for the sake of your glory put a fear of you in the hearts of this generation in Brazil so they may not turn away from you. God, help them to rebel against this world system that makes us glued to our phones so that we cannot pray. Help them to show self-control. Holy Spirit, teach them what it is to be soberminded. I pray for a generation that can sit in silence marveling at you. As David says, the one thing I ask that they just want to sit in your presence and gaze at your beauty. God, may that be our one goal that all the days of our lives that we could kneel quietly in your presence and that would center us, God, for this passionate loud country. May they also one day be known for their silence, their ability to be quiet in your presence. enjoying you. May they not lose their passion. Screaming so loud in your presence. Crowds of people joining the angels in heaven. Thank you for that example. Now God, may there also be a movement of quietness, alone fear of you in your presence that sustains them in Jesus name I pray. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. So much Francis. Francis, thank you so much. Thank you guys. ((music playing)) Brazil. Amen.
