Praying In The Spirit I want to talk to you today as my wonderful partner about praying in the spirit because praying in the spirit is the most powerful tool we have today. The most powerful tool on earth is praying in the spirit. And a lot of people don't understand what praying in the spirit is. It's not praying in tongues. And I want to show you from the word of God what it means. Now wonderful Jesus, we come to you and we ask you Lord to open our hearts and our understanding spiritually that we might see and comprehend spiritually your word about praying in the spirit. We give you the praise. We give you thanks. We thank you with all of our hearts for what you're going to show us. To you be all the glory. And God's people said, "Amen." And amen. And thank you for being with me as my wonderful partner and my family. I want you to go with me to Romans 8 beginning at verse 26. Likewise, the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities, for we know not what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now note and and look at what it says here. Likewise, the spirit also helps our infirmities, for we know not. None of us can call on God. None of us can truly pray until God calls on us. Likewise, the spirit also helpeth our infirmities. For we know not what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself, we need the Holy Spirit himself to come, who makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searchth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the spirit because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Now I want you to go with me to Exodus. Exodus 25. I want to go real slow here and help you see just one portion at a time. how we need God to step in before we can even call on him. And so God says to Moses, "And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims, which are upon the ark of the testimony of all things which I will give thee in commandments unto the children of Israel." So here we see something powerful. God says, "I am meeting with you, not you with me. I'm coming to meet with you, Moses, not you coming to meet with me." And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee. So Moses had just finished building the tabernacle and now God says, "There I will meet with you. I will come and meet with you. There I will commune with you from above the mercy seat." That's so powerful. Now often we as people want to begin first. No. The Bible says we're to wait upon the Lord. We are to wait. You know, I've been talking about what the psalmist said in Psalm 40. I waited patiently upon the Lord. In Isaiah 40, they that wait upon the Lord. So, we have to wait upon the Lord. And now when we wait, something happens. Something amazing happens. in Psalm 80. Let's go to the Psalms. Psalm chapter 8. That's 80, I should say. 80 and verse 18. Psalm 80 verse 18. So will not we go back from thee. Quicken us and we will call upon thy name. Quicken us Lord and then we will call on your name. We have to wait till God quickens us. It's interesting and so powerful in Romans 8:15. The spirit comes and then we cry aba father. The spirit comes and then we cry aba father. So here we see something powerful. Quicken me lord. We will not go back from you. Quicken us and we will call upon thee. Turn us again, O Lord, God of hosts. You turn us, Lord, towards you. We We cannot turn our hearts towards you. You You turn our hearts towards you. Cause you thy face to shine and we shall be saved. And and you you see how it says, "Lord, we're waiting on you. Turn us. Cause your face to shine and then we'll be saved. Turn us again, oh Lord God of hosts, because we can't do it ourselves. Cause your face to shine and when your face shines, then we will be saved." So this is so important. waiting upon the Lord. And what happens is as you wait, there is a moment when God will quicken you and you'll know it. And the minute he quickens you, it says in Ephesians 6:18 something very, very powerful. I want to read that to you. is a praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit. Now the minute you begin to pray in the spirit, this is when you are able to watch. You can't watch when when the flesh is in control. It says watching there onto with all perseverance. Well, that's impossible in the flesh. Praying in the spirit gives you and I that ability to watch, to be alert spiritually with all perseverance. That's why people give up in prayer because they're not praying in the spirit. They're praying in the flesh and they get tired and give up. But praying in the spirit gives you perseverance. and supplication for all saints. Praying in the spirit removes all selfishness because now we're praying for all the saints, not just our needs, all the saints. We go beyond ourselves in the spirit. Prayer in the spirit is focused on the will of God. It's so important the will of God. And the Bible is clear. Let's just go, by the way, uh Ephesians chapter 2. Ephesians chapter 2. And I'll talk more about the will of God in just a moment. But look at Ephesians 2 and verse 18 because it says in this amazing portion that access is given to us by the spirit. It all comes back to waiting upon the Lord. It says for through him we both have access by one spirit unto the father. Do you want to have a real powerful life of prayer? Do you want to touch the heart of God and see answers? Do you want to see God intervene in your situation? Then wait upon the Lord and wait till God quickens you like it says in the Psalms. And now wait till the Holy Spirit cries through you. How beautiful we see that. And let's you know what? Let's go back to that beautiful portion in Romans chapter 8. I just mentioned that but I think we should read it. 8:15. Romans 8:15. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage of bondage again to fear but you have received the spirit of adoption whereby we cry aba father. Notice that the spirit comes before we cry. The spirit comes and then we cry aba father. He quickens us and then we cry aba father. So it becomes a delight not a duty. becomes a joy. As long as prayer is duty, it's not spiritual. When it is a delight, it's spiritual. Praying in the spirit is delightful. Praying in the flesh is hard. This is when people struggle and fight the flesh. I mean, and and this is where they they begin with if it be your will. They don't pray in faith because praying in the spirit is praying in faith. Colossians chapter 1. Colossians chapter 1. When the Holy Spirit comes in, he is the spirit of faith. It says in 2 Corinthians, Colossians 1:9 says something powerful. For this cause we also since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you and to desire that you might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. The minute you have spiritual understanding, you're living in the spirit. Now, now you know his will. It says here clearly, for this cause, we also since the day we heard, we don't cease to pray for you that and desire that you might be filled with the knowledge of God's will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. So when when people pray in the spirit, it's delightful. It's not about duty. It's about delight. It's about uh it's not about hard work. It's about surrender to the voice of the spirit within you and to the prayer of the spirit within you. You're simply the vehicle that he's using to pray through you with groanings that cannot be uttered. It says he intercedes according to the will of God. Remember what it says earlier. In fact, let's go back to that very very quickly. Come on. This is so important that we connect it all together before we go to first John because the spirit of God likewise the spirit also helps our infirmities for we know not what we should pray for as we ought but the spirit himself play uh maketh intercession for us with the groies which cannot be uttered and he that searchth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the spirit because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Praying in the spirit means you pray according to the will of God. But it's the Holy Spirit. It's the Holy Spirit praying through you. First John 5:14. I think some people have mis misunderstood that this is about knowing the will of God by the spirit. And this is the confidence that we have in him. 1 John 5:14. For this is the confidence we have in him. And every time you see in him, it means in the spirit, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. Notice the word in him. This is the covenants we have in him where you're when you're in the Lord, you're in the spirit. And now you're in the spirit. We ask according to his will. It says in verse 14, look at it right there in your Bible or right there on the screen. You can see the same verse. He hears us. And if we know, it says that he hears us. Whatsoever we ask. And how do you know? By the spirit. If people are praying in the flesh, they don't know that God is listening. They question if God is listening. Whatever we ask, we know we have the petitions we have desired of him. It's incredible. So when you pray in the spirit, there is confidence, you're praying his will, there is faith. Faith. The Holy Spirit is the spirit of faith. It says and and when there is no faith, there is there is destruction. Lack of faith is the most destructive force in prayer because there it's not spiritual. And that's why sometimes you hear people say if it be your will, you take the if out now because you wait for revelation. There's something important in Job. Job 34:32 says something powerful. That which I see not, teach thou me. That which I don't see, please teach me, Lord. That which I see not, teach thou me. Would you lift your hands and ask God to do that right now? Just say, Lord, what I don't see, please teach me. Oh blessed Holy Spirit, teach me what I cannot see right now. Teach me, Lord. And you'll see. Life in the spirit is so simple. It begins with waiting on the Lord. Just waiting on the Lord. The simplest thing you can do is wait on the Lord. I you know I'm sure you probably saw and heard what I taught on a few days ago but if you have not listen to these verses Psalm 40 verse 1 2 and 3 I waited patiently for the Lord. He inclined unto me and heard my cry. He brought me up. Once you wait, God will bring you up out of an horrible pit, out of the mighty clay, and set my feet upon a rock and establish my going. He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God. Many will see it in fear and trust in the Lord. So, you see the importance of waiting upon the Lord. And we've all, you know, sung songs and know the portion in Isaiah, they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles. run and not be weary and walk and not faint. But it's waiting that will quicken you. Otherwise, people get uh you know physically they they they get uh uh tired mentally, they get tired physically. uh you'll find yourself fighting drowsiness and uh your thoughts begin to wander and your spirit gets heavy because it's not spiritual. Anyone who yawns in prayer is not praying in the spirit. You just heard me right. Because when you are in the spirit, there's no the body goes on pause. It's not even tired. It's impossible to be tired when you're praying in the spirit. I know I've said something new. Somebody just woke up and and heard me. Whenever you pray in the spirit, there's divine power flowing through you. That energizes your body. You can't even sleep. You cannot even sleep. Whenever I get in the spirit and I pray, I weep. I never yawn. Never. I never feel hungry. I never get tired. I never feel like I'm drown. No. No. None of that happens. But if you're in the in the flesh, you'll yawn. You'll feel tired. You'll fight fatigue. You'll fight your thoughts. They begin to wander. You start you get distracted so easily. But when you are praying in the spirit, it's impossible to be distracted. But you have to wait. It's the waiting that will do the job that you need in the beginning. Wait upon the Lord. He will quicken you. And the second he quickens you, all tiredness, flesh tiredness is gone. All this drowsiness and all this mental problem and all the fatigue and all the fighting that happens physically is gone because God will give you staying power just just like Moses. I mean imagine Moses on the mountain 40 days and 40 nights, no food and no water. What kept him going? What I mean, think, can anyone last that long on a mountain with God? Well, how about the Lord? Tempted for 40 days, fasted for 40 days, no food, no water, no sleep. That's spiritual. Moses prayed twice. Twice, 40 days, 40 nights. went to Mount Si and Joshua who was not with him also endured waiting for him. Now how did Joshua do it? You say well Moses was with God. God took care of him. Well the same God will take care of you. He took care of Joshua who was waiting for Moses 40 days and 40 nights. We're not talking about 40 minutes or an hour and a half or two hours that you and I have to wait on the Lord. We're talking about 40 days in the presence of God. But he had to wait. It says seven days before God ever spoke to him. Seven days. Read it. It's there in Exodus. He waited before God spoke. David waited. He said, "I inclined that God inclined, but I waited patiently for the Lord and the Lord inclined." Okay, the Bible is clear. God will give you staying power like he do with Moses. And here's the key. And when that happens and and actually tells us something about Moses in Hebrews 11 that I think is a key here with with you and me that will give us endurance. It says that's is uh Hebrews 11:26 27 esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward. By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king. For he endured as seeing him who is invisible. He endured when he saw the one who's invisible. When you when you pray in the spirit, you see the Lord, not your problems, not the problem you're facing and the conditions of your life. You'll see the Lord. And when you see the Lord, everything goes. Everything the in the natural disappears. And that's what the Bible calls praying in the spirit. Remember Ephesians 6:18, pray all prayer, it says in the spirit, watching there onto with all perseverance because you've waited. You've you've been quickened now. Now you're seeing the one who is invisible. So, you've endured. And I'll tell you something else I saw. If you look at Hebrews 6, there's something powerful here in verse four and five that sometimes we don't connect. uh Hebrews chapter 6 verse 4 and 5. We don't connect it with with uh prayer but I think it has a lot to do and Paul is talking whom I believe wrote Hebrews and maybe someone else wrote Hebrews because nobody seems to agree on who wrote Hebrews Apollos Barnabas and so on but I think it's very Pauline because of the of the end of of of the epistle where he talks about Timothy being released from prison. So anyways, that's another thing alto together but um let's just focus on this. It is impossible for those who were once enlightened and and have tasted of the heavenly gift were made partakers of the Holy Ghost and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the world to come. Then he talks about if they shall fall away to renew them again seeing they crucify to themselves the son of God aresh. But notice the words that say that in verse five have tasted the good word of God and connected and the power of the world to come. When you wait upon the Lord and he quickens you, the word of God that is in you now that you've been reading allows you to taste the powers of the world to come because he says tasted the good word of God and the powers of the world to come. Wow. I open my my Bible and I read it and then I wait on the Lord with the word already in me. Today I read all of second Corinthians. All of second Corinthians. I'm going to tell you something. There's nothing like it when the word of God gets in you because and I read the entire book because you know you you get the whole book in in one sitting and you get the whole message of the book. It's really quite powerful. And then when you wait upon the Lord, something happens to you. Tasting the word of God is connected to tasting the powers of the world to come. Tomorrow I'm going to be talking about praying with the spirit which is in tongues. Praying in the spirit. I just talked about it today. That happens by waiting on the Lord. You pray in the spirit. So Paul says in in in Romans and Ephesians we pray in the spirit in the spirit. Tomorrow I want to talk to you why also praying with the spirit is important which is in our prayer language. So join me for that. Lord I thank you for your word now. Lord, bring everyone that is watching, everyone that's listening to this blessed life of the spirit where we can live in the spirit, walk in the spirit, pray in the spirit in Jesus wonderful name. We'll do it for everyone watching and listening in Jesus name. Amen. And would you just say, Lord, that which I don't see, teach me. That's what he said earlier in Job. Hallelujah. All right. I'll see you tomorrow. But before you leave, before we say goodbye, I'm going to ask you to give to the Lord's work because the gospel must be preached. This is going to be an amazing year for all of us in the church worldwide. I'm on my way to Brazil the next few days. I'm going to be in S. Paulo, in Santa Catina, and Salvador, three cities.
